Ferdinand Piëch has passed away

Sadly it's been confirmed that Ferdinand Piëch has passed away at the age of 82. Incredibly important person for the brand we all love and cherish. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Nick Trott's account in Road Rat magazine about his role in the 917 story, certainly worth a read if you want to gain insight in who he was/what he meant.

Sad news. He was responsible for the modern automotive conglomerate as well as some of the greatest cars of all times.

RIP...a great man, amazing engineer, loving father and devoted husband has passed away.

His death came very surprising and very sudden shortly after he arrived with his wife in his Lamborghini Urus at his favorite restaurant near lake Chiem in Germany. At age 82, he was still driving himself and he was actually a very fit person. At least he didn't suffer for long...

He is a great engineer with a great vision, there is no doubt about that.

But he is questionable as a leader, his decision making process leaves something to be desire.

His distaste for the Porsche family is also well known, yes he is still half a Porsche, but he doesn't carry the same last name and the infighting between the 2 clans had been well documented. Stealinng your cousin's wife? That's beyond low.

He might be half Porsche, but he will forever be better known as king of Audi, HIS baby. Porsche the brand really means nothing to him.

He is gone, there will be no more Piech news making headlines, and his sole legacy for future generations will be he one of the greatest engineer within the VAG group, other stuff will just be a footnote.

Yes the 917 are great race cars, but Porsche will still be Porsche now with or without him. In fact, he left Porsche after the 917s anyways so pretty much everything happened after he is gone.

Can Audi be where they are now without him? He single-handedly lifted Audi to where it is now. Quattro anyone? The most famous AWD system in the world.

I read somewhere that he drove his Urus with his wife to a restaurant on Chiemsee and then passed away there suddenly . For the docs here, heartattack? He was fit and brilliant and this happened too soon.

Unfortunately, in Ferdinand Piech we lost another great Austrian (after Lauda) this year.

Piech's legendary life and his physical and mental condition made most of us think that he died too soon at 82; but Heaven has no favourites
