    Thanks for posting!

    Re: New Touareg

I wonder if it'll be a problematic abortion like the last two?

This thing consistently scored the lowest in reliability and satisfaction ratings here in America. Every kind of problem imaginable.

Which is a shame considering how strong a truck this could be, especially when paired with TDI V10 turbo diesel.

    Re: New Touareg

To much plastic impression on the front. To much the same old Touareg from the side.

Hybrid engine sounds innovative and low consumptive.

BUT - simply the fact that VW presents this car on a close-shop high VIP Gala event would prevent me from buying it. No clients just the people which getting the car for free out of marketing reason. What time are we living in, the normal buyer doesnt even get a free glas of water at VW and the stars are getting events with top entertainment and the car on top for free. And this from a company which is owned for a big part by the country.

That wasn't the case with both V10's that I have had. The first one had a few glitches, but nothing major. The second one which I still have, has never given me any troubles. Very happy with the car. Best bang for the buck SUV on the market out there IMO.

    Re: New Touareg

BTW, get full info about new Touareg-IMHO the best offer by far in its class.

Example-V8TDI with almost full options 83660€ in Germany with Mwst.

That very good price for 4.2 TDI V8 with 340hp/800Nm and state of the art 8speed TIP.

    Key numbers 0-100km/h: 5.8s, Max: 242km/h

I am very tempted-this is almost ideal family car.

If you want to pay at least €20K more for similar specs new Cayenne S then go for it...

    Re: New Touareg

looks very good, clean and mature. indeed that price for a fully loaded 4.2V8 TDI is pretty amazing!! nice car.

Pretty cool! Although a bit to little dramatic in the front! Current FL looks better IMO

One question! Will there be a Coupe version? Or even a CC! (Hey one can dream, no!  This is VW we are talking about here!)

    Can not disagree more...

For that €83K you get fully equiped(with options) Touareg V8 TDI.

For similar spec new Cayenne S you will need at least 103K and even current ML V8 CDI is more expensive then new Touareg V8 TDI. Of course you can say that it is Mercedes but, on most European markets Mercedes is no longer considered as premium worth...

Even FL X5 4.0d(in true 306hp 3.0L biturbo diesel) is with same option not any cheaper then new Touareg V8 TDI.

What do you mean "for a VW"? VW is a top brand for technology and quality.

Maybe you are still thinking about VW in terms of the era of the old Beetle.

I bet that the V8TDi will sell pretty well, it is a very interesting Diesel at an "acceptable" price tag. I wouldn't exclude a power version of the V8TDi to come to the Cayenne.

The car looks to boring for me. The interior looks so standard and no passion.

I'm disappointed about the direction VW is going. After the Passat CC and the Sirocco I thought they go a bit more risky, but it doesn't look like

    Re: New Touareg

Is it just my imagination or the Touareg steering wheels a little simlar to the new 911 steering wheel?

That is very correct. Europeans treat VW the brand as a extremely understated marque, invisible one that people can blend in with.

We here from the rest of the world think of VW as the value brand, along the lines of a Honda, Toyota, Fiat, Chevolet, etc.

83k Euro is like over $113k US, no sane person is going to pay that much for a value brand, that's why there are no $113k Honda, $113k Toyota, $113k Chevy.

It's is a bit of discount from Porsche Cayenne pricing, but people are happy to pay the premium to get a proper luxury brand, not a wannabe.

VW already have the luxury brands under it's umbrella, they could just as easy release a US$80k Audi version of the Toureag.

Phaeton's failure is a big example, but Piech just don't get it, no matter how hard he try, people outside of Europe just won't take that kind of pricing for VWs.

Last gen Toureag was also very expensive, nibbling on the heels of Cayenne, that's why the Cayenne was so successful, pay a little more and you can get a big upgrade from VW to Porsche.

    BINGO!

What a lot of people don't understand was that for quite some time, we weren't getting the more stout and robust VW's.

Frankly, VW was more on par with a brand like Hyundai (but just a slilght bit cooler) for quite some time.  VW in America is a budget brand. It's why the Phaeton failed miserably. Branding issues. A $70K VW Smiley - American's just said "No way!" but slap some Audi badges (or Bentley which is what it really was) and then there would have been zero issues. Smiley

Just as they were moving up the totem pole - sort of a real viable option to everyday Honda's & Toyotas, the damn quality control wheels fell off the truck in the 90's and we got some pretty awful cars. Constant problems. Anemic engines. Always getting the downgraded European options.

Touareg is a good truck - but you can't come into America, birthplace and land of the SUV / Pickup truck  - with something that has more niggles, problems, and electric gremlins than an American made counter part.

The Touareg was always at the bottom of the JD Power rankings here for it's class and that's like a death sentence especially for a foreign brand.

80K for a VW is just as bad as 100k for BMW! All brands are at least 20 overpriced! At least this year you can get decent discounts!

    Really? At PZ Auto? Hmm...

Maybe for 2009 cars but, try to order new Golf R for example and see what discount they will offer...

    Re: New Touareg

Depend on who you know, like always, I guess! But PZ Auto and all VW are terribly stingy IMO.

A friend was in (BMW) Tomić the other day and as soon as he asked for a quote they gave him 20% off on a new showroom car and 12% on special order! And he just walked in... no connection no repeated buyer¨!

2yrs ago he bought new A6 and he god 12% of on a good specced 3.0TDi, BUT true not directly from PZ auto, cause they mostly had 20TDi's at that time!
