According to VBH on 5th Gear review the one under the bonnet lets hot air escape from the front radiator. I assume the other 2 are for aerodynamics.

Nah, an office car-guy asked me why all the vents; I didn't have an informed answer.
LOL, BTW I'd like to put THIS front end on my eventual Turbo; Less is more IMO.

Pic of 996 GT2 with same front bonnet vents. Official text fronm porsche: "The air flowing over the vehicle produces a suction effect, due to the special front edge configura- tion of the air outlet opening in front of the luggage compartment lid, which increases the speed of the air flow through the middle radiator."

Interesting... Is it a shorter boot lid on the GT3 or a different front bumper?
I notice that the aerokit as fitted to standard cars doesnt have the vent. I had assumed that the front of the GT3 was the same as the aerokit option available to all cars, so Im assuming that the GT3 therefore has a shorter boot lid?????
Anybody confirm either way?

Except that in the case of the GT3 (996 GT2 and 996 GT3RS) the front vent is providing downforce, ensuing quote from the Porsche website under the GT3 section:
"The aerodynamic elements of the front of the car are a major source of downforce that pushes the front of the 911 GT3 to the road. A key element in this approach is the narrow vent located ahead of the front deck lid. Incoming air is channeled through the radiator and expelled over the top of the car. This simple solution results in a significant degree of positive front-end downforce. The new front apron features a range of aerodynamic refinements, which help to cool the brakes and direct air to the central radiator. The third radiator unit is a necessary addition to compensate for the higher thermal loads on the engine."
