    Re: 997 Turbo

not sure abouth the tranny, but i guess that helps making even more sense from the 4wd (but i dont know any details there).

DSG will be offered of cause, that's a 100% !

Yes, but the question is when. I'm hoping for launch but current rumors suggest otherwise.

Now that that is settled the real question is how will it perform?
It will be really interesting to see how it will do against a competitor that costs half as much.

    Name one...

The Corvette Z06 with 505 HP It would be nice to see the 997tt come out with 515 to 525 HP. It beats the Z06 and comes close to the Ford GT in numbers.

But as RC said, there will be, eventually, a TurboS and GT2 which will no doubt put the kibosh the Z06's hp dominence -- the regular Turbo will be just the base model, I suppose.

Yikes!!! Just think of it... a base model that will command $140K+ price tag beaten by a car that is half its price. Good thing the Turbo will be so much more exclusive. Somehow this reminds me of the old Ferrari vs. Porsche debate but reversed this time with Porsche taking the role of the car that is over-priced and "exclusive".

    Am I missing something?

Over the last tweo weeks I read two articles in German car magazines where the latest 405hp Corvette produced slower acceleration times (0-200) than a 355hp Carrera S...

That is why I do not have the slightest doubt that a standard 997TT will be faster than a Corvette Z06. Even the 996TTS is probably quicker already.

    Corvette 0-60 times

I just watched a Car & Driver show that had the Vett at 4.6 and the 997S at 4.2. I feel pretty confident that the TT will be faster than the Z06, but time will tell.

997TT w/ All wheel drive, probably.
HP is important but being close w/ a lot more going for it, is more important. Take the 500hp Viper vs. The F430. If you could pick either one for free doubt many people if any would choose the Viper. As for the Vette vs. the 997TT no doubt which one I would pick. Wouldn't matter to me if the Vette had 600hp.

...the 997TT might be the first petrol car in the world with VGT (variable geometry turbocharger). this means more torque over a broader range and higher power output!

    cheers

I'm pretty sure Chrysler used this technology on a petrol car about twenty years ago.

I read both articles too, right. The 997 CS won from 0-200 km/h (125 mph) just by a few fractions of a second but anyway, not bad.
But I had a pretty interesting experience this weekend near Munich on the Autobahn: a NEW Corvette Cab was trying to get away from me from 120 kph to around 240 kph. No chance, not one single inch. And on the contrary, when he moved to the right lane at around 160 kph, I passed him very very very slowly and had already passed him by a car length at around 240 kph o the speedo when I had to slow down due to traffic in front of me.
Maybe this car had an auto tranny, I don't know. But here's the surprise: I was driving in my FULLY fueled and family (4 persons) equipped Cayenne Turbo PK. And yes, the driver of the Corvette Cab definetely tried hard because he followed me and stayed behind my tail all the time til Wolfratshausen. No chance to pass me.

I always think you get for your money what you pay for, it may not be correct all the time but from my experience, it is a pretty valid claim.
The Corvette is a very nice sports car and I would probably choose one over the Boxster or Cayman but not instead of a 911. Not to speak about the flagship, the 911 Turbo. It isn't only about power, the whole concept is different.

    Re: 997 Turbo

dudes teh 200kph acc has alot to do with drag, drag increases to the power of 2 with speed. so if porsche has a lower cd, and sufice area wich it does its no wonder it beats thte crvette, it has nothing to do with horsis
