    GT3 .. take the wing off ?

How about buying the GT3 and taking the wing off would that be possible ? I think this would be the way to go .

Re: GT3 .. take the wong off ?

sure it would be possible. it might affect high speed handling however and you could have sudden spinning tendency as audi tt had a few years ago.

What do you mean with "the way to go"? Designwise? maybe, but that depends on personal taste. Aerodynamics wise? Definately not. The wing makes sure that car does not produce lift at higher speeds... removing that, and the car would have very nasty characteristics!

Re: GT3 .. take the wong off ?

too bad ... it kills the look for me and the new GT3 is so the right car except for that wing .

Re: GT3 .. take the wong off ?

I think if someone's buying the GT3 for its look, it's probably not the right choice of car. Instead, a Carrera with aerokit would be much more appropriate.

rip the wing off, GT3's perfection from an aesthetic

where's that CHAINSAW?!?!?!? FIRE IT UP!!!

Re: GT3 .. take the wong off ?

The rear wing on the 996 GT3 RS was my favourite wing. Simple....clean design.

Yes, and you could probably add that instead without aerodynamic problems if so desired. The 997GT3RS will have a different wing too that would most likely be more easily retrofitted...

Re: GT3 .. take the wong off ?

Anyway you can't just take the wing off. This car is balanced with that wing, and you have to find another one giving you the same downforce.

Right, and the 996GT3RS version is adjustable to vary the amount of downforce...

Of course it is possible, give me a circular saw and i could even turn it into a cab.

    Just a little joke

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

Some just do it the other way around. GT2 wing on 996c4s
That C4s looks really cool IMO.

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

Though I am not a big fan of big wings... I like this... and I love the vanity plates!

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

I had that wing, switched over to a oem aerokit on my C4S. I found it squirrely on the track, you must add at least a TT front lip to balance it out AD wise. The angle of attack is much steeper than the oem aero wing or even the real GT2 wing, there is also alot of lateral drag too. My concern was the lack of any aerodynamic testing at all, for me oem was best. If you never go to the track, may not make a difference.

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

If you remove the wing you should probably change the front bump to the base one in addition . Then you would have the same balanced car as a base 997. I have actually thought about doing that. The question is whether or not the wiring would be there to operate the standard retractable wing. I would put the wing and bumper back on for track days.

I would order a GT3 delete aerokit optioned car :-).

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

I know everyone has there personal taste, but for me I allways think back to the 911s I used to see as a kid with that awesome wing on the back.......... Each to there own, but I can appreciate the car with or without the wing, if its a porsche I love it. If it comes from porsche with the wing, i think you should keep the wing on it.... if you dont like the look of the car, maybe your looking to purchase the wrong car?

    Urge to kill rising.

BTW notice how the rear bumper has those cuts in it echoing the lines of the wing = the wing really is integrated into the look of the car. This is on top of the important functional benefits.

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

The GT3 looks awesome as is- perfect!

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

From the Porsche website: "we have created a road-going car that is equally well suited to everyday driving and competitive track use." That is true if your road-going car never needs to leave a level road. Unfortunately, I'll have to pass on the aerokit since it'll never get into the parking garage or driveway aprons that are part of city life. (Note I'm talking about ground clearance, not a stiff suspension--Chicago potholes are a separate issue.)

Aerokit delete may be heresy to the Germans, but is unfortunately the only way I can see myself in one.

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

I think if you leave the wing of the car it will loose its legal. I'm afraid... In the past, when you wanted to order the Carrera 993 RS (or RS Clubsport) frontbumper it was only awailable in combintation with the rear wing. Also the aero-kit for the 996.

But it would be very interesting to get only the rear bumber (I like the rear air-outtakes[or how you call them?]) and the central exhaust.

    Greetings

Re: GT3 .. take the wing off ?

you can get all the body panels separately. auto repair shops buy that way all the time when fixing damage cars. all you need is the part and you can order the part from a dealer's service department. at least you can in the states.

if you got the rear bumper only you would need to change the exhaust, since it would not line up with the bumper cut outs anymore.

Re: GT3 .. take the wong off ?

If you like the GT3 look without the wing maybe buying a 997S with the cargraphic GT3 front will be the way to go
