Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

Some dealers marking up launch vehicles .... sad but true .. supply and demand , seems to be about 10K right now a few places if you want a guaranteed may production launch car that the dealer is getting . I guess the dealers feel for those who want the first cars and are willing to pay over sticker they may as well make the extra cash . Seems a bit sleazy though

Isn't this what most car dealers do when a brand new model comes out?????

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

Slightly OT but -- I read somewhere years back that Aston Martin dealers are not allowed to mark up their vehicles here in the US - does anyone have any more information/confirmation on this?

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

I can order one right now with all the specs i want with 5% discount.delivery end june.
    America...different world
I guess you guys are richer than europeans

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

I am sure that many of the launch cars will go well above MSRP . I can see it now some guy walks in and sees a new 997TT on the floor and the dealer tells him it will be 6 months before he can have one but for 10 or 20k he can drive the one he is looking at home right now . I live in Miami and 10 or 20 k for many people is like a penny falling out of their pocket . I watch 430 spiders go out the door of the Collection here for 100K over sticker so I can only imagine when a launch car is sitting on the floor with a 10 or 20k mark up ... it is going to fly out the door .

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

I'm okay with the markup, as long as Porsche HQ says it's ok. It's their cars, they can add $10K, $20K, whatever. I'l just wait until the market price is back down to MSRP.

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

    Let me guess, California?

Here in Houston, they'll only sell it at MSRP.

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

I don't think pag allows it's dealers to sell over sticker on new cars.

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

    dubai is at msrp aswell

it is not legal to not allow it unless the dealer in an agent .

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

996TTs in their first year were being sold for 10-30K over sticker, and first year 986 Boxster S's often had 5K to 10K chump stickers on them.

Porsche usually doesnt care what prices their US dealers sell cars for, just as long as they sell them.

And for lots of dealers who recently have been discounting
Cayennes, Boxsters and 987s, its just catch up time.

When the 996TT was launched here in Los Angeles, I remember Bev Hills Porsche stating they would not be marking it up. However it was only being offered to current Porsche customers only and if you were trading in you were going to get it in the cornhole.

Rather see an actual mark-up on the sticker than a fake no mark-up policy.

As far as I know, Porsche doesn't allow markups anymore.
And it is interesting how dealers are actually asking a 10000 bucks premium since they need a signed contract (fixed order) by a customer and they need to send this data to Porsche when ordering the car, even launch cars (with the exception of one dealer car I think). I don't know if this is true for the whole world but I would be surprised to see exceptions.

My dealer doesn't ask a penny more for the car and he already got some very interesting offers from interested people. Kudos to him. No rebate as well but I think this is OK since I'm getting such an early car.

not for the launch cars Porsche will never see the final price buyer pays .

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

In the US the Dealers are Independant and "technically" sell for whatever price they wish.

The only recourse the Manufacturer has is that it can cut the alocation to a dealership that gauges their customers, because the Manufacturer pays in the long run.

You can see the problem: How does the Manufacturer cut the allocation to a high volume Dealer

The solution is that the customer shold complain loudly (naming names) about the dealership on all the the Public forums and to PCNA.

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

Talked with another dealer today ( will not name them ) that just took the deposit on their launch car from the highest bidder 20K over sticker . So I guess a lot of dealers are going to hold out for as much as they can for their launch car . Guess it is not too bad when you think what they get over MSRP on a 430 .

Am #1 on 997TT list at 2 P dealers....was offered launch vehicle@MSRP by both dealers....I passed, as I want my 997TT per my specs....I suspect most dealers w/est'd cust bases offer launch vehicles@MSRP to their best custs...and, if there are no takers, offer launch car to general public at mkt prices....seems economically rational to me....(and BTW key F dealers in SF/NYC operate in similar fashion w/these mythical waitlists for the unwashed masses who've never bought a new F before ).....

Re: Some dealers marking up launch vehicles

Supply and demand. A small number of people will always want to be first on the block and they will have to pay to play. I would guess that if you have bought one or more cars from your dealer he will not charge you over MSRP, but if you've never bought a car from him before, why should you get a car before one of his repeat customers?

Give it a few months, or take a car for next spring, and you'll pay MSRP anywhere.

Side note on the F car game: a friend just bought an '06 F430 coupe (first Ferrari) for "only" $25,000 over MSRP. The catch: he had to buy a Quattroporte or Coupe' to get the Ferrari at that price. Wait until Ferrari increases production...

Oh, and BTW, here in the U.S. Porsche cannot legally dictate to dealers what to sell their cars for. Restraint of trade. They can squeeze dealers with allocation adjustments, but then again, if the dealer is moving cars, does Porsche really care?
