It's a horrible design, I'm sure it's good value for money and drives well, but god it looks bad...

Hm, I agree that it doesn't really look like a corvette anymore. Also, I understand that if you liked the real corvette styling, this new look does not really appeal. The design language of the new car is a bit busy, but I don't dislike it. At least it is a coherent design all around, it's not like with some modern ferrari's, where the front and the back seem to be two separate cars.

DaveGordon:The C7 is prettier to my eye..
Couldn't agree more. The C8 looks like an "americanized Ferrari". This always happens when US designers are too eager to find a special design and they end up with some sort of Euro-Japanese mixture.

Americanized Honda at best.

I love the GT500, I even love the RAM 1500...
, I also love the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk or the Challenger/Charger with Hellcat engines. Not a fan of the design of the C8 though, said it before. Also not a fan of the NSX design, sorry to say that. That small rear wing on the C8 looks hideous, the C8 looks much better without that wing.

The bias against U.S. automakers is deserved. The U.S. automakers pushed an inferior product on the consumer for decades. The causes are manifold as being the low cost producer took emphasis over quality and real innovation. Sadly, the Japanese auto industry, which decimated the U.S. auto industry starting in the 1970s took its guidance on quality from the same companies. Too bad the managers and engineers didn’t heed their own standards and methodologies.

I was wondering when you would post something like this in this thread. Every single time if there is any little thing related to an american company you jump, not just cars, any company, any sector, this nationalism is what is tiresome, get that chip off your shoulder already FFS.
People are just sharing their own subjective opinion of the looks of two versions of the SAME car, both american, that is it, where is the problem? in other threads some state that they like the 997's looks better than the 991 or the 991 better than the 992, there is also a bias against the germans?
Nick, one thing is that American cars are not the most popular on a Porsche oriented member base since American cars offer different qualities that may not appeal to this crowd, what do you expect, but any anti-american bias m this forum is all in your head, so don't take it that way.

Nick, I think you are seeing to much in to this, but If you are happy with whatever you are buying, then why care so much what others are thinking.
I had a Jeep GC SRT and I was all in all happy with the car. Great engine, I liked the design and the car had a great spec list. It did exactly what I needed it to do. I believe the Dubai version is basically fully specked. You can only chose color here. But....the build quality is questionable. The carbon interiors kept on cracking and deforming (is that even a word..?). Jeep had to replace these carbon bits at least once a year. The seats looked like something coming out of a 10-15 years old car after 3 years and 75k kilometers etc.
Coming back to the Corvette, I like the design of the C7, with the exception of the ZR1 which I find to vulgar. I always liked the Corvette, and have also followed their racing program very closely both in the US and at Le Mans. Hell, I even went to the Corvette pits at Le Mans, but that does not automatically make me like the C8.
Here is a photo from Le Mans 2017 in a badly hung over version
All in all i think you will have to accept some criticism, the car culture is very different at each side of the pond and people expect very different cars, so to produce something which covers both cultures is a big ask which only very few manufacturers seems to have been able to do, including our friends from Porsche.

A Democrat nationalist?
I've seen weirder things though.

My family has had economic ties with the major U.S. automakers for several decades. Once that interest was divested, the family moved toward non-U.S. automobiles, namely those of German origins as we value engineering excellence. That ethos was core to the divested interest.
Over the years, we have tried U.S. autos again and again with varying levels of disappointment. This is sad since there are some very talented individuals at those automakers but for some reason the organizational structure leads to a less-than-satisfactory product. While the C8 Corvette was initially desirable, the introduction of the Cayman GTS 4.0 shifted interest back to Porsche.

The reviews are starting to come in on the C8: https://youtu.be/B85SaCFNqg. This one is from Engineering Explained. He really should spend more time on arms days or wear long sleeve shirts.

Looks better in this video. https://youtu.be/_fAZifMgoz8. It doesn’t matter if one finds the C8 attractive or not, it is sold out for this model year and most of the next.

I wouldn't buy an early year production anyway, being such a departure from their previous versions it's bound to improve in many aspects, as well as in reliability after the first couple of years, and since it's a bang-for-buck car, deals will also be better once production surpasses demand. IMO no sense in getting one now unless you are a die-hard Vette fan.

Gnil:One really does get a lot for his money with this car , except for good styling.
The most hideous thing is the rear wing. Without it, the car is acceptable but will probably get a major design overhaul with the next gen. I don't know if design was somehow limited by technical specs and/or cost but I truly hope this was the case. This car is not a beauty, even if it has all the style elements of a serious supercar.
I have to say one thing though: For the money this thing costs, comparing it to other brands (incl. Porsche but also BMW and Mercedes), I think the C8 is a very good offer. If the quality is good, this thing will be a huge success.

I don't like him, but his videos are mostly informative. And in this video the C8 (features some optional styling package) looks much, much better.
Also agree with RC: the optional rear spoiler is a mess, I would definitively order a C8 without it.

Nobody really likes him in the videos (funny: I know two people who met him personally and spent some time with him and they both say he is a very enjoyable person and completely different than in the videos ) but maybe this is his MO, his brand, his CI if you will.

That wing is part of the Z51 package which includes a slight power boost, sport exhaust, larger brakes, revised suspension, and summer tires. There is a different wing configuration reminiscent of the Performante’s wing design but it too appears daft. It is a bit of a blight on the design but a small cost for the benefits of the overall package.
