Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

Finally got the call this morning...the units are in and they are going to swap out my NAV-TV unit for the Dension.....

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

which dealer is it in london ?

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

Do keep us posted. Rumour has it that the NAV-TV units have been recently updated to fix all the previous problems.

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

The Nav_Tv unit is still limited because it uses the PCM interface whereas the Dension unit allows you to use the ipod interface which has much more functionality and flexibility......

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

Thanks i reckon the same thing.

Just had a chat with a John at AA (they're just round the corner which is a bonus) and he mentions that the list of people after the 500 is soaring while they still cant get any of them in.

He also mentions that several people have done the install themselves and ended up sending the car back to West London and needing the ECU replaced. Dunno what to make of that but sounds like scare tactics to me...?

Like i say, please do keep us updated. This kinda thing has been going on for too long and i'm glad to see a likely solution happening with the GW500.

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

Just came back after having the Dension unit put in....in a word...'perfect'.....it does everything I need it to do. This is as close to full integration I think we are going to get...anything closer will only be an official Porsche release which according to my dealer is currently not on the cards.

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturda

How much did you pay for the install?

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

    Where is the iPod fitted?

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

iPod is in the central armrest (but you can have it put wherever you want).....for me it was a straight swap out with my Nav-Tv unit so I didn't pay anything. I'm told that the unit is slightly cheaper than the NAV-Tv (from memory I paid around Pounds400.00 for that incl. fitting).

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

Nad - can it effectively play songs if you set your ipod to random?

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturda

Great to hear. We have just begun shipping our Dension Group Buy units for all PCM vehicles.

Non Nav/CDR24 head units should wait a few more weeks, otherwise these things are working well.

And we have them on the main order page for those not yet able to obtain them.

    Thanks.

Yeah, that is the only real annoyance I have with the Nav TV unit.

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

Another serious bug with the Nav TV unit is that the screen track title doesn't advance together with the song, which makes skipping impossible.

I don't think I have that bug. Do you have v1 or v2?

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

If you use the iPod user interface setting and set the iPod to 'random/repeat all' it works perfectly. But the down side is that you will not see the track information on the PCM screen (which personally doesnt bother me as I like to leave it on random and let it just play). It does however remember where you left off when you turn the car off and picks up from there when you restart. If you use the Dension interface the track names and numbers appear on the PCM but then I think you will be relying on the PCM's random function which isnt very dynamic ie you have to set it each time you get in the car and the random sequence is always the same! (kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me). But either way the sound is great and I dont think anyone will be dissapointed with the unit. It will come down to personal preferences on the set up and how each individual likes to listen to their music which will detrmine which interface is used. Although I cant see the track titles on the PCM on my particular set up, I have placed the ipod in the central armrest and so can always have a quick look there if I need reminding of which particular track is playing.

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

Does the denison allow control from a multifunction wheel since it is not based in PCM?

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

I havent experimented too much yet but it seems that if you are using the ipod interface you can only control volume from the multifunction steering wheel.....I will play around some more over the weekend. But when using the Dension interface you do get full control via the wheel.

Re: Dension Gateway 500 being installed on Saturday...

Thanks! Seems like there are compromises to both the Denison and the Nav TV.

Okay Porsche... time to step up and come up with good solution that does not cost $2000...

    Nav TV v1 bug

Got mine in Oct 2006 so I presume v1.

Let me clarify, the screen track title doesn't advance together with the song means the following:

If I let PCM/NavTV play a sequence of songs, the first song will forever remain on the screen, even when track one has finished playing and the system moves onto other songs. This is the case in both sequential and random mode.

This means when I press skip when track three is being played, instead of jumping to track four, PCM will only jump to track two.

Makes sense? Are you saying you don't have this problem on v2?

    Re: Nav TV v1 bug

Sorry to hijack a Denison thread, I'll just respond and drop off.

    W211,

I think I understand your issue, my songs titles do advance on PCM when a new song is playing and when I use the skip keys it advances correctly.

Random does not work for me however, but with multifunction wheel, with a roll of my right thumb I "create" my own random list. I did purchase the v1 initially and Nav-TV released the update before I intalled it, so I sent it back and they sent me the v2.

Re: Nav TV v2 vs. Dension Gateway 500

    Much thanks thuggy.

One final question, it appears the Dension Gateway 500 version allows more than 99 tracks for each playlist. What about NavTV v2?

Re: Nav TV v2 vs. Dension Gateway 500

I'll check and get back... I know it does for artist list but I'll check tracks, don't know if I have any playlists that long.
