    Interesting......about 10-15 years ago I would have been all over this.....now, no presently made Z and most likely any future Z will make me want to buy one though. I don't know what it is......I'm just over the high HP, common as hell, marginal quality sports car.....one of the reasons Porsche is my brand of choice. Same goes for the new Mustang.....decent car and if I was still in my 20's I'd probably own one.....just don't want one now. Maturity or stupidity??

    350Z never did it for me either. The only Nissan I ever liked was the 300Z when it came out in, when was it?, early 90s?

    Seriously speaking I think a lot of people are just overestimating the value of pure HP. As long as the audience does so, the carmakers' marketing departments are continuing with the HP war (sometimes remembers me of the old game: who's got the longest.... ) regardless whether they are able to transform the massive engine power into traction (not to speak about the average driver's capability to handle the HP).

    At the end of the day it's not HP only, but the entire "package" which distincts a HP-monster from a refined sportscar as we all know (remember the numerous examples in F1 history, when the car with the biggest HP-figure did not make it as the package has been missing something - suspension/aerodymanics etc.)

    I've read a nice review in an english speaking car mag (don't remember which one) a couple of month ago about the 987S. The author described the pleasure of driving the car with a sort of "Ying/Yang" feeling, which he has been missing in other (maybe "better" powered) cars. I think all we Porsche nuts (whatever type of Porsche we are driving) know what this guy tried to describe, even if his description of the specific performance characteristics of the car was not very "scientific".

    Having said that I am quite sure that Porsche has to take care about the HP war nonetheless in order to protect it's image as one of the world's finest sports car companies, as SOME customers (I've no idea about the percentage) will accept only a certain margin in HP-differences (Porsche vs. others) as the Ying/Yang thing would not outweigh the lack in HP IN THEIR OPINION.

    As nearly all car companies (at least the so called premium brands) have been joining the HP war, I am asking myself what would be the buying decision factors (beside the price) after this war will be over (question to the tech pros in this forum: where are the technical/financial limits - can we expect to see a 600 HP VW Golf in 5 years ?)
