    911 vs cayman

there seems to be a lot of negative views about the cayman, but i think they seem to be coming from negative people. i can fully understand how i would feel if i had just brought a 911 and then porsche bring out a car which pretty much does the same and looks better for 15k less. i have read so many things about this car and so many things that people say just does not make sense. can you really tell the difference in 0.4 of a second?, do you need to go faster than 171mph, imo no. so thats why when im racing a 911 around the nurburgring and i'm winning, i will be thinking what i can spend that 15k on.

    Re: 911 vs cayman

also 1 more thing. the price comparison is stupid. nearly every option that you put on a cayman s you have to put on a base 911. its not like a base 911 comes with pasm or nav or s/chrono etc. and even if it did, a well spec'd cayman(nav, pasm, 19wheels, bose, s/chrono, metallic, park assist, s/s/wheel, rear wiper etc) is still cheaper by at least 7k(pounds).

its a no brainer, there is no argument!

    Re: 911 vs cayman

These threads are stupid, please stop. Your comments will just start off a whole new argument.

Jon Roth says Cayman is 50% Carrera, 30% Boxster, 20% bespoke. To me saying a Cayman is better than a 911 without driving one is just silly, and even if you do drive one and happen to like it better than a Carrera, it is still not better, you simply like it more. Porsche do not want the Cayman to be better than a 911.

Trying to get one over on 911 owners for making a bad purchase is even more offensive than 911 owners dismissing the Cayman for snobbish reasons.

I have a Cayman on order but I'm not trying to kid myself that I'm getting a better car than a 911 for Pounds16k less. I'll judge the car on it's own merits or against cars that cost around the same money (m3, slk 55 amg etc etc) not a Pounds70k 911.

It's time everyone looked at the Cayman as a standalone car and not some '911 for poor people' or whatever.

Its all personal and for me it does not look better and imo P is just trying to kill the Z4 range , but the Z4 Motorsport going by the mags is a match for the Boxster S and more , time will tell ..But does it really matter..

    Re: 911 vs cayman

    throt,

BMW don't need any help with that. If the styling wasn't enough they sabotaged their own car with the worst ride quality of any mass produced sports car out there. Then they introduced small engines to finally kill off it's exclusivity factor. Through in some very dull colour choices and ....voila....... an aspirational car that struggles to sell after only two years in production.

Oh yeah.... and you loose a fortune in depreciation.... I speak from bitter experience there

Finally a very intelligent comment, I wish I had the brains AND the language knowledge (my mother language is German) to have used the same words to explain my feelings towards the Cayman S. Thanks.

LOL ,, I also looked at the M6 the other day and with options it equated to Pounds87,000 , but I do feel this car will become BM's king of depreciations , and to be honest I looked at it and thought NO it just does'nt cut it ,, the alloys the stance everything . Not for me and it did look price heavy..

    Pefer the M5 ..

You're whining about negative people bashing the Cayman, but in the same breath you slap them in the face with your antagonistic, negative comments. It doesn't help.

    However, great post, Luko!

can you buy a new left hand drive m6 for that price in the U.K? over here it costs $150,000. (crossing my fingers)

    Re: 911 vs cayman

I think I posted this elsewhere but a friend of mine who sells BMW's for a living tried to interest me in an M6 which had come into his showroom. The sale price was Pounds89k and I told him politely that I wasn't in the least bit interested as the residual would be scary. I asked him how much he'd bid at 6 months old with under 6k miles on the clock. He basically said that as soon as he registered it and drove it out of the showroom they'd only bid around Pounds73 for it so there goes any hope of retaining a premium! The styling just doesn't cut it and at nearly Pounds90k it's up against the AM V8 Vantage, a fully optioned 997C2S or C4S, used Gallardo's etc etc. You could even buy both a 997 C2 and a 987 2.7 with no options for that money. It's a no brainer - leave the M6 alone unless you are very rich.

But doesn't that sentence imply that if you are very rich than you have to be pretty dumb, or - at the very least - that it's OK for you to be dumb?
