Cayman competitor coming?
The front cover of this week's issue of Autocar. The article says it is still early days for the project which is at the conceptual stage but that the new model would sit below the GT as a 718 rival in both coupe and roadster form and likely share engines with the upcoming A35 and second generation A45 models.
They say Mercedes are looking for a way that AMG can better leverage it's success in motorsport and that a relatively affordable sports car is one idea under consideration. The rise in popularity of the GT4 class may help make a stronger case for this model as they say the existing GT version homologated for GT4 racing is too expensive for most amateur racers starting at 198,850 euros vs 111,000 euros for a Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
