Thanks, Nick. 😎
Some sad and some good news regarding the R8: As of next month (May 2018), production of the current R8 will be stopped, no more cars. There will be a facelifted R8 though in autumn/winter, engine gets a particulate filter as well.
Also interesting: Got a 2018 R8 today, only two months old, to drive (sales guy picked up my car to have the TPMS fixed, I don't have time to drive to the dealership). First impression: Exhaust sound is quieter! Quite noticeable, even if it still sounds good. At first I thought I could be wrong but 10 minutes later, my sales guy called me to ask if I modded the exhaust of my car because it sounds way louder than the car he brought me. So it seems that Audi did some exhaust sound tweaking, probably after the R8 disaster of a couple of hundreds of ordered cars being stuck in a US port for months(!) because they were too...loud. No kidding!
Now I am really curious how the facelift will sound!
Bad news in this regard: It seems that the German certification agency for cars, KBA, will put in effect a new legal regulation in May, saying that exhaust systems can never be louder in various driving modes and/or exhaust flaps positions than the regular exhaust sound. Meaning: It is impossible to create "louder" exhaust systems. What is even worse: They say that this is valid for already certified cars as well, if they are louder than stock in various driving modes and/or exhaust flaps positions, so these cars can be seized by police and owners can be asked to get a "fix".
Wonderful times in Germany... 🙄
