    How to survive winter ?

    Hi guys,
    As some of you know I caught the track bug really bad...
    Guess I had the last trip to Nordschleife for this year today
    The only consolation is that it seems that the last lap for this year also was the fastest lap

    But how can I survive the winter without this most exciting road of the universe ? Any good suggestions appreciated

    Of course I share some pics with you about my last day of the year at the magic track....

    Extremely few traffic today.....basically I'm alone in front of the gate to heaven

    Seems I was too fast for the wifey taking the pic while re-entering the track for another lap

    This is not a common 356 - it's a Carrera Should be worth 150k Euros - the driver didn't care, he had really fun on the track This is one of the reasons I fell in love with Nordschleife so much - it's the madhouse of pistonheads

    Porsche-Jeck, I'm in the same mood right now, as track days are finsihed. Except that you might wanna go to the Nürburgring, even during "winter time", as they're a lot of dry days. If you love it, you might wanna go on wet days too, In order to practice for example for a 24 hour race on the track one day

    I'll definitely return later this year, as I still have tickets to burn!

    Yes, I never tried it but I've heard that one can achieve amazing laptimes on the virtual NoS

    The problem is, that the wifey (using our toy as a daily driver) insists to put on those winter tires next week

    As you live in Belgium: I know a nearer track for you with a lot of rain

    You must be kidding about who's gonna to follow whom
    I'm more like an Eifel-cruiser enjoying the scenic views Though it would be nice to get that R-badge next season

    Laptimes in the virtual world are crazy... Not a fan of Forza, but Ive been playing Project Gotham 4 a lot, which is great, and have managed a 5:14 lap time in an FXX!!!! Ha ha

    I might get you an indoor karting ticket for Christmas, what do you think?

    I'd say you'd get addicted to the Nordschleife even if it's in computerized shape. Not sure how tolerant Mrs. PJ wants to be in those cozy winter nights...

    PJ, Narrower Winter tires will give you a bit of the feel for driving a "veteran" car without having to own one.

    For fun sakes get some mounted on to 17's

    Imagine... oversteer on demand! - greater braking distances! - tires squealing and about to lose control much sooner and that gut feeling of oooooh SH*****t !!!.

    But wait, you can do even more! You can duplicate those Top Gear powerslides to get perfect images for Xmas Boxster Cards!

    @ Ferdie: I'd expect a zero tolerance policy from Mrs. PJ re hanging around in front of computer games during those cozy winter nights....

    I'm taking european delivery on a BMW 3-series in January. Will the Nordschleife be open at that time, or should I give up all hope of ever driving on that grandest of tracks?

    fuenfer, for opening times check the "events" column of the Ring's website

    There are no entries for January yet (I'm sure they'll update the calendar in December), but the Ring is open all year (except for snow/ice days).

    Have fun in Munich and in the Eifel
