Weather is bad, mileage is good
What with two hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico the weather has been "suboptimal". So I've been finding other ways to entertain myself with the 987S.
Yesterday I decided to see what kind of mileage I could produce with some careful driving. I know this is boring, but I was curious, so humor me
. Anyway, with the cabin sealed, AC off and cruise control on 62mph (100km/h) I registered 31.8mpg (7.4L/100km) going both directions over a 30 mile stretch of road. I was rather surprised, but I guess it makes sense given the Cd of 0.30 and relatively low rpm needed to cruise at this speed in 6th gear. Merely turning on the AC lowered my mileage to 29.8mpg (7.9L/100km) however. My typical mileage, including city and highway miles, and driving the car fairly aggressively, resulted in 17.6 mpg (13.3L/100km). Anyway, hardly a scientifically valid test, but I am impressed with the flexibility of this car. Besides being such a blast to drive, it really can be fuel efficient when needed.
I hope that the weather is better this weekend so I can get back to more involving driving though.
