    I need your thoughts

    I found a dealer with several 986 and 986S ( 04 new) with heated seats, PSM upgraded stereos etc...The S's are $46K the 986 is $40K. I can afford the 987S but what would you do? $10-13K savings and the cars are NEW.????

    I'd rather have the 987(S) model, to be honest. It's the better car and will be resold easier when the time comes.

    Get the 987S. That's a no-brainer IMO.
    I have a 986s myself and am extremely happy about it, and even tho I dont find the 987 an improvement over the 986 in very many places, I'd pick the new model anyday.
    I would guess it's a better deal resell-wise

    3 for 3 - I'd say get the 987.

    986 used prices will now go down some more, so overall the ownership cost of the 987 or 986 is likely to be similar, so go for the latest (and greatest!)

    Proud owner of a 2003 986S, but would go for the 987S as well!

    When my lease was up in 03 had the 987 been available I would have gone for it no questions asked. As it was, there weren't enough improvements, not even the facelift, to justify it for me. I think the new interior alone would make the choice for you. Good luck!

    I can't tell if you were being sarcastic, but between a 986 and a 987 S...just drive them both, and if you are still indecisive, be like Luke Skywalker, close your eyes and just feel it...haha

    987 S - you cannot go wrong.

    I'll get a little more technical -

    The 987S is just a different beast - truly a remarkable improvement over the 986 - especially with the interior...the exterior cues are similar but yet the 987 looks that much more masculine...the 987's top can be dropped at fairly high speeds as compared to the 986 which required you to come to a full stop and have the handbrake up...the Bose system, as much as I hate Bose, is a huge improvement over the stock Becker sound system...the interior of the 987 is like staying in a Ritz-Carlton compared to the Hilton-esque 986 interior...

    I can really go on and on, but if you are on this board, chances are you've done some HW by reading some material from the automotive press

    Have a 2002 S. Agree. go for the 987. It's better everywhere...especially the interior build quality...and the noise of the new S is really sweet :-)

    You should remember that you're on an enthusiast's board. Pretty much everybody here loves his Boxster a little bit too much... (including me). And if you love a car that much, it's no surprise everybody recomends to get that car with the most powerful engine.

    However I chose the standard 987 (non S), because I didn't feel that much of a difference between the S and the non-S. They are both NOT REALLY powerful sportscars. However, the one is a little bit more powerful than the other. But to me it was really just a tiny bit... not worth the extra $$$ IMHO.
