Bilster Berg - new circuit in Germany

Looks like the german authorities have just shown green flag to the Bilster Berg project! Looks promising... Smiley

Re: Bilster Berg - new circuit in Germany

"Drive Resort" ? I don't know...sounds more like something for my wife.

Looks promising if you ask me.  At 4.2KM it's long enough to keep the interest, along with a mix of technical, fast and slow bends.  Will it take the name of the "mini nurburgring" away from Cadwell Park in the UK.  It might just do that.

Your wife and you. That´s the key... Smiley

Should be similiar to the Ascari Race Resort. The British troops are leaving the region in the next couple of years, so there is a lot of space and infrastructure left. Bad Driburg is otherwise only known for their sanatoria, so that might change the visitors´ profile a bit...

Happy to see that there is the chance to launch a racetrack in today´s surroundings instead of closing them down for economical or ecological reasons.

Re: Bilster Berg - new circuit in Germany

By the way, the main initiatior Marcus Graf von Oeyenhausen has regularly participated on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, driving a Jaguar E-type in historical races, so he knows the subject very well.

And here the first trackday already!

Interesting. So they have a Louis Vuitton store or some nice outlet shops next to the track? Smiley

Otherwise I doubt my wife would be interested. Smiley

Smiley I have already marked two dates in August and September next year Smiley

BTW Walter Röhrl advised regarding the track layout - the layout will include a section which is (according to Walter) similar to the NoS' Pflanzgarten section Smiley Anyway, it looks very promising - nice corners, elevation changes....

When this track becomes reality I'm living in the middle of the magic triangle for every track addict: Nordschleife---Spa Francorchamps----Bilster Berg. I need more vacation days Smiley

Well... we can all move there :D

Re: Bilster Berg - new circuit in Germany

This is why I'm actually a little bit p.ss.d: Over here in Bavaria, there is nothing really worth mentioning for track addicts. I usually use the private road of a friend, which is kind of risky because there are a couple of trees left and right or a decommissioned airport for my track fun but not really high quality or high fun stuff, just for the occasional stress release.
Walter Röhrl is Bavarian, maybe he should start a campaign to bring a decent track to Bavaria, preferably in the Munich area. We always have to drive to the Salzburg Ring, which kind of sucks (not necessarily the SR but the distance).

I'd like to try this track. I received a program for an event there, but it is nearly  at the same time as my Scuderia course at the N'Ring in September, so I will not make it.

Re: Bilster Berg - new circuit in Germany

I heard a bad story about the possible driving time. Someone who attended an event told me that they had to finish very early because of the noise. There is something like a “noise pollution” measuring system installed. If your reach a defined level of “noise pollution” you have to stop driving. Something like “louder car = shorter driving time”. Some of the participants of the event were very angry and said “never ever again”.

He said the track itself is very challenging.

Re: Bilster Berg - new circuit in Germany

Well there are at least 4 villages within a radius of 1km from the track.. I suspect they have very strict sound pollution requirements.

Will have the pleasure of driving there next month. Looking forward to it.

    Shaky, those images...

Re: Bilster Berg - new circuit in Germany

please post pics, it looks like an amazing track. Not too far from my home town Hannover. Wish I had it when I lived there.

Have a fun track day kiss

Re: Bilster Berg - new circuit in Germany

I wish they would offer something equally interesting in Bavaria. I have only three choices here: Hockenheim Ring and Salzburg Ring, maybe Boxberg. All of them are pretty far away from my location, which sucks. Yes, we have an airfield we can use for some track fun but this is not the same and there is a very strict sound limitation.

Something like Bilster Berg near Munich would have been nice... yes

True. You have a certain total volume you can use (all the participants together).

The track is a gem. Very technical, and even a little daunting.
