But that doesn't mean they could slow down the improvement progress of their products. Especially, the 911.

I think they are putting too much time to create other cars and not putting enough effort to create a better 911 like they did long time ago.

    Time to wake up!

Re: A Lap of the Nurburgring in the 2009 Nissan GT

For the 998 Porsche really needs to put all 911's on a serious diet!!!

Agreed. Aluminum chassis and composite body panels would be nice...

    A dream!

All new cars are getting heavier, except real supercars.

New Subaru WRX/STi is lighter than last model and several other cars too. I think it will start to happen more as fuel efficiency becomes more important...

oh really? that's good, since the new evo is getting heavier with all those electrical things.

but I still think the weight won't go down because of the safety standard and about fuel efficiency will solve by the engines itself.

I guess you haven't read about Ferraris emphasis for the 430 replacement. If Chevy could use magnesium and carbon fiber to reduce weight, Porsche should follow suit.

I read that, but Ferrari is not making something like Porsche does today's IMO. And everytime they say "lightweight", the final product isn't that light.

I don't think that's real, maybe that's my wishful thinking. I don't think Ferrari has to do that anyway, completely rip off their brand IMO.

Re: A Lap of the Nurburgring in the 2009 Nissan GT

I was messing. You were stating that Ferrari is not making something like Porsche does today, which is a Cayenne. No laughs I see. There is no reason for the Ferrari to even build a SUV/Crossover vehicle.

This is gotten way off topic. I think it is lame that Carlos Ghosn mentioned the commitment to the Japanese SuperGT but I'd prefer a racing version that fits FIA/ACO regulations.

I agree 100% However it would appear that with Marketing overruling engineering (Cayman could easily be better than 911) one doubts this would happen.

I think that Porsche know their market better than Nissan, traditionalists would not be seen dead in a Nissan, though saying that i have one on order just waiting on price to be finalised before i totally commit

Marketing overruling engineering sucks and Porsche is real good on marketing!

I think you have made the right choice, can't go wrong with the new GT-R. I am thinking to get one too, but I am getting the face lifed turbo next year, so maybe afterthat as a toy.

An interview with the lead engineer of the GT-R stated that the car lapped the 'ring at 7:49 with regular laps coming in the 7:54 - 7:56 range (whatever that means), so there is no 7:35 lap time for this car.

It's not difficult for GTR to lap it 7:38.If you put a DSG in 997tt,even add 220lbs extra weight,it can still be faster than a Gt3 in straight line.GTR is a car faster than GT3 in straight road comes with supreme suspension which no worse than GT3 as well as a efficient AWD system.
We know GT3 lapped it at 7:39,it's not hard to understand the 7:38 or a 7:35 of GTR.

Re: A Lap of the Nurburgring in the 2009 Nissan GT

Isnt the gt3 lapped at 7.43?
