New PST3 available soon!
PST3 = Porsche System Tester.
This is the tablet PC like system tester which Porsche mechanics use to diagnose the cars electronically.
Improvements: more rugged design and especially much faster processor. Download/Upload times have been improved significantly (it takes more than 20 minutes to read out the Cayenne's complete diagnosis of all electronic units).
Rumors indicated a color screen for the PST3 but unfortunately it seems it stays B/W.
There is also a strong rumor that Porsche wants to introduce a firmware/software database for mechanics.
They get the newest firmware/software for engine ECU, gearbox, etc. on a CD-ROM or via PAS, so they don't have to check with the factory first or wait for the latest update for the PST3.
There is also a strong rumor that Porsche wants to introduce some kind of remote controlling for important ECU units. The mechanic will be able to connect the factory directly to the car's electronic units, making it much easier to find a problem if needed. "Problem" for customers: aftermarket ECU mods will be detectable in a blink of an eye.
