    again: Imola Racing

    There's a new test of the Imola Racing Modena in a German car magazine.

    facts:

    1)
    0-100 km/h: 5.2 sec
    0-200 km/h: 17.1 sec

    I read elsewhere, that they have built only one car so far. If that's true, so how come that the difference between the short test in ams (0-200: 14.3s) and this test is so big?

    2)
    Because if the poor performance figures, they've put it on the test station.

    result: 435 instead of the promised 475 hp

    Well, I'm not at all interested in aftermarket modifications of a Ferrari, but here comes their shocking explanation:
    not the aftermarket mods should be the reason for the loss of power, but - are you listening -the Modena it is based on should have had only 360 instead of the 400 hp (also measured on the test station)

    So what? I thought the times of the false power output figures of Ferrari (355, 550) are over?
    Does anyone believe?

    Well, the 355 had a power loss, when they had to change something at the engine (you even can see the changes at the airbox) due to noise and exhaust regulations (around 1996 ?). Power dropped to 350 hp (some even say 330 hp). The last models should approach the 380 hp again.
    According to my dealer, nearly none of the 550 Maranello reached the promised 485 hp. That changed with introduction of the 575.

    So I was really bewildered when I read, that a standard Modena should have only 360 hp.
    But I have a disposition to think that Imola Racing takes it as an excuse, because they could gain only 35 hp instead of the predicted 75 hp...

    I can remember the Super Test from SportAuto when the 360 was fresh on the market. They checked it's power and found even a bit more than 400 bhp.

    Which reasons mentioned your dealer about the full-power-story with the 575 maranello and what does he say about the stradale?

    I also believe the 400 hp of the Modena. So far, I have no informartion about the Stradale.
    Regarding the 550 he said, that the official power output was not true and that the there is a hell of a lot of difference between the 575 and the 550, what means much more than the "offical" power increase of 30 hp would indicate.

    Several Testarossas were dyno tested and failed miserably to achieve the promised HP ... We are talking about 60 HP less in some cases ... I am sorry to break the news to you but Ferrari had a lot of issues in the past.

    High-tuned motors (like those in ferraris) often lose compression pressure due to the enourmous ammount of pressure in the combustion chambers. This is why racing engines last so little. Perhaps if these cars were dynoed earlier on in their life times, they would yield better results. It is not suprising that the most dissapointing cars are ferrari's V12s, the cars with the largest combustion chambers.
