    Re: Oh Oh

Porsche dont have to worry. You dont drive Mercs.
No but seriously Porsche will better have to do good with the 987, which I'm sure they will.

Performance may be close or equal, but too bad it still looks like an SLK.

The last time I drove a Boxster S, I've been surprised that it actually felt much sportier than the Mercedes SLK 32 AMG, the "top-of-the-line" SLK.
I actually wanted to get my wife a Boxster S instead of the SLK 32 but she loved the retractable hard top and I had no chance with arguments like "sportier drive feel", "better handling" or "better looks". Women have their own mind...

The new Boxster looks very nice and I'm sure Porsche improved the driving experience. But I'm sorry to say that: it is underpowered. The new Boxster S is rumored to have 280 HP. The SLK 350 already has 272 HP and the performance seems to be very good, especially since Mercedes improved the steering on the SLK. I drove the SLK 200 for a few minutes (I didn't have more time) a short while ago and I've been very surprised how nice the steering feel is now. I would even call it direct. I need more time in a SLK 350 or the new SLK 55 AMG to create a final opinion but from the short moment I had in the SLK 200, I'm afraid Mercedes started to learn. Porsche can't do wonders about the new Boxster, they can improve this and that but they can't make it faster, unless they put more power or less weight to it.
Both didn't really happen, so I'm afraid the Boxster will not hit record sales numbers anymore. And I'm not sure the Boxster Coupe will improve things.
The only solution would have been: 315 HP for the new Boxster S, 350 HP as standard for the 997, 380 HP for the 997 S and so on. But right now I don't see how the Boxster could really cope with the new SLK, especially since the new SLK looks a little bit like a small SLR.

    Re: Oh Oh

A Mercedes steering with feel? In the same sentence? From Mr. Porsche himself? I can't wait for your assumptions for the SLK55 and the C55, preferably with Nring suspension. Though the standard comparison would be enough.

SLK is finally catching up....but I doubt Boxster S buyers (mostly women) will appreciate an improved driving experience in the new Boxster, the tintop and auto should be enough

Boxster S drivers mostly women? I'm not sure where you got that from?
And wait until I drive the new Boxster, Porsche still has the chance to do it right...and better.

100% agreed. Regarding handling I always preferred the boxster (M030 installed) over my 996tt. But there was the lack of power ...

    Cheers
    Thomas

    Re: Oh Oh

Well that info was from seeing all Boxster's driven by women. Don't feel bad, its true, at least in the UK. This next comment from BBC Top gear.... well you make your own judgements:

    "There's only one reason you buy a Porsche Boxster...because you can't afford a 911".

    Re: Oh Oh

I think you notice all woman driving Boxster, not paying attention to all the men driving them! Men are the majority buyers of the Boxster, its just that more of the wives enjoy driving their cars.

I suppose it is the same dumb comment as "Porsche named the 911 911, so American drivers know what number to dial when they wreck the car".
The Top Gear guys always like it to bash Americans and Germans, seems to have become their personal favorite.
I understand a joke here and there but we Germans usually enjoy a lot to laugh about...ourselves. Even if we don't really have humor.

    Re: Oh Oh

I just watched the 5th gear (another UK motoring show) episode of the SLK350 with 7G tronic.

Pretty short but one line stood out: "Better than Boxster and Z4 to drive"

Well, its a surefire winner, the SLK55 will be too.

    Re: Oh Oh

The NEW Mercedes SLK 350 is still isn't AS good as the OLD Boxster S...the new Boxster S will blow it to pieces
