I just looked at the pictures again.
This design line is a crime against humanity.
Chris Bangle must be violating some grave law or human rights act when he comitted this design.
You'd have to be blind or suffer from some exotic disease to buy this car.
God, it's ugly.

yes that is what irritates me about some car manufacturers, they think that they can sell anything, no matter how ugly it looks. I think they're taking the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" out of hand! and if enough people see it, maybe the look will just "grow" on them

I think what happened is that BMW realized that its Bangle's design does not sell as well as the previous generations. (that includes the 7, 5 series and z4)
So they told Bangle to go easy with their best selling car of all times: the 3 series. This car is the most important one for Bmw. I guess Bangle tried to but I would not be surprised if he started to design the new 3 like the 7 series and afterwards, he was asked to mod his original design to something more conventional.
The result: it's worst than a full bangle design like the 5-series. It's way worst than the old 3-series's design. It's basically a mix of these 2 designs, wich adefinitly does not work.
Why Bmw just don't fire the guy is beyond my understanding. Sure it's gonna cost them a lot to redesign all their cars, but it's a think that must be done. Let's just hope for it because if they don't, it's gonna take years for Bmw to get back where it was, that is to say better than Mercedes and Audi.
It's so sad that audi's are front wheel drive because they look the best, and built quality is also a lot better.

Where did you get this phrase? So true!
It's really a shame, what happened to the once so gorgeous BMW design, since that bloody Bange took over.
A couple of years ago BMW design was said to be nearly as elegant as Jaguar style and look what tanks they build now.
And this 3series coupé looks worse than the saloon, IMHO not only the rear but half of the car beginning just behind the doors looks butt ugly.

I'm sure you guys are refering to the 4-dr saloon and not the 2-dr coupé which has not been officially unveiled yet.

yes but the 4-door saloon is JUST as ugly!
and yes i've seen the coupe, it had black tape stuck all over it, obviously still doing minor tests, the BMW factory is an hour away from where i live
