Nick's inevitable reply will focus on the 1% drop in their stock price.

    LOL

    Re: Porsch Sales Rise again

He will also point that higher unit sales inevitably translates ...... into lower resale value.

This being said, Porsche sales were extremely strong especially outside of North America that only grew by 4.0% vs +15% for the Group.

He will also point that 660 Carrera GT sold is way too much. It's ruining its "exclusive" appeal

    Re: Porsch Sales Rise again

What is it with all of you when it comes to numbers? Sales wordwide rose 6% from what? From 2003-2004 numbers. But consider that in the 2004 Porsche sales were not strong. The Boxster was in the dumps and Porsche was unloading the last of the 996's.

Y2004-2005 was the year they introduced the 997, 987 and the several variations of those models. Yet coming off a weak year and the introdction of several new models they only manged a 6% increase in sales? No wonder the stock took a hit.

    Re: Porsch Sales Rise again

In theory we should probably be comparing 911 sales from the past year to 996 sales from its introductory year. Same thing with the Boxster. Anyone happen to have that data?

    Re: Porsch Sales Rise again

I do have the data ....

    Nick you're unbelievable !!!!!

By the way, sales worldwide grew by 15% (Boxster +39%, 911 +17%, Cayenne +5%, CGT NA).

Since 95/96 sales have been growing consistently ... from 19,262 units to 88,279 units even when Boxster sales were weak. Not bad at all.

By the way, model change over is NORMAL in the auto business.

I don't think Porsche dumped the 996 at the end. I think they "milked the cow" very nicely.

The Boxster was available only for 6 month (late Nov in Europe and late Jan in NA)

The 997 was basically only availabe as a C2 Coupe. The Cab reached the market in March.

The 997 C4 will come to the market late October.

Agreed, Eric's posts are always insightful.

But, to be fair to nberry, he may be in 99%ile in terms of his literacy & quant skills, esp considering he lives amongst the many "intellectually challenged" folks of SD.....if he moved to FL, his neighbors would prob consider him a genius....

You're right, Nick. It's a good thing you didn't invest in Porsche stock.

I have not been viewing this thread but good thing I did.

In Y2004, they could not give away Boxster's. They sat on lots and after fire sales they finally rid themselves of the cars. Thus, the smallest sales of Boxster's in 2005(new model) will look good.

The same for the 996. Many sat on the lots and were discounted heavily. In addition, in anticipation of the 997 Porsche cut production of the 996. Like the Boxster, when there was an initial interest in the 997 orders were placed. Without doubt a slight increase in sales from the previous year would result. However, given this was a new model, sales were sluggish at best.

Regarding buying Porsche stock, it certainly was a buy in the past. They have a rabid fan base who will buy anything that had a Porsche badge on it. Many still do. However, the future is not strong. Porsche knows this and is the reason for the Sedan and Cayman.

The sales of the 997 will hit a wall when he 997TT is introduced. The Boxster sales will tail off substantially in 2006. Regarding my intellect, I would agree I am the dumbest person on the planet.

NIck, I just love your substatiated, well documented facts you always bring to the discussion, with many references to base them and free from any personal conjectures or biases. In case I need to mention it, I'm being sarcastic

Also, your famous Porsche prophecies always bring some humor into the threads, especially for those of us who know you from way back and have read those that go back to years ago and were proved wrong by time, starting way back with the Cayenne failure prediction and dark times for Porsche in the Cayenne pre-production times

Not clear what your point is.....
Most P buyers don't have bucks to buy new 430s @mkt price/don't have pals to help move them up list at F dealer for 430 @MSRP during their lifetime....
Many 430 buyers w/resources also own various P and Merc products b/c they appreciate that P and
Merc build some amazing products for various uses (commuting/other wkend driving)...and resale value is ultimately a trivial issue to F's dream demographic (those who fly via pvt jet and have 3-4 houses in high-profile locations)....
So what are we all missing here? No. of guys who can/would want to only have a garage limited to 430/575/612/Enzo is perhaps <5 guys globally....most of this dream demographic also opts to have 996TTS/GT3/CGT/CTT/SL65/S65, etc in their fleet....after all, these guys need to stock their garages at their 3-4 houses....

    Re: Porsch Sales Rise again

Step up and be heard. The P-cars are overpriced for a "ubiquitous commondity". Shop with your feet and not your heart.
