997 carrera s engine whistle (problemsound), please help!!!

hello i have recently bought a 997 carrera s. the car is awesome. however there is one thing which annoys me alot.let me ask: at high rpms like starting from 5000 till the limit i beginn to hear kind of a whistle.(i definately dont talk about the great power sound coming from the engine after 5500) like turbo turbin sound. which decreases also propotional to the rpm if i take my foot off the throotle. i hear the same whistle at 900 rpm when the engine door is opened. if there is someone who has an idea about this noise or having the same experience please let me know what it is. thanks all....

Maybe some type of bearing? Water pump or something since its RPM related and not vehcile speed related?

Ask your dealer to figure it out.

no whistle...
just -on the S- the nice and wild roar of our dear Mr Helmholtz over 5000 rpm
And, when the car is cold, an ugly scrap noise of the exhaust during two minutes...

Sure its not the radio interfering?
Even when it's off it can make sounds that are caused by badly shielded wires or powercable. The sound always follows the engine revs.

I heard the same sound you are talking about on a new 987s I tested.
Could be resonnance from your particular exhaust, the generator belt, camshaft...I dunno.
I'd check with my mech if I were you

i have still my whistle with me. since there is not any solution jet, i started to get used to it. probably i am very skeptical about the noises:)

I know the sound you're talking about.....I don't have it at low revs....but at the high rev range it does change the engine note to a bit of a whine....don't think it's a problem....it's a bit like the clanking (chewing nails) sound when you start the car cold (it sounds rough for about 15-20 secs.

Are you sure it's not that "Turbine Whine" sound that all 911's seem to have. The sound is a very succinct sound, that says Porsche, without actually seeing one go by.

Haven't driven a 997 yet, but you can hear it quite well in the Top Gear/Clarkson review of the 997.

I think it might have from your radio... Did you install a aftermarket system??? If so then theres a strong chance that it may be so...
I had the same problem with my car, it has to do with the wiring.

That sort of electrical whine only happens if you have a poor electrical ground, or an Alfa Romeo.

please dont scare me anymore. is it possible that there might be a electrical error or something like?? i dont wanna believe that. and from now on i wont listen to that sound at all.:))))
