    How accurate is the on-board computer??

    My OBC is giving me a funny reading as I was checking my e/oil level.

    after a bout 5 mins of waiting, it tells me my oil level is at the bottom of the gauge!!!

    that cant be rite since 2 days ago it was full??!!!

    I did the check after driving for 1 hr and the engine is warm and car is horizonal.

    so guys, should I head back to my dealers to hv it looked at

    and when is the best time to do the engine oil test to give the most accurate reading??

    the manual tells you the best conditions to check the oil under.

    Five minutes is probably insufficient time after shutting the engine down for the oil to all drain back into the sump. Normally after shutting down the E-dipstick times out at over 30 minutes. At least it does on mine. It is very sensitive, the slightest off level gradient affects it. The book says each "block" is about 500ml but I reckon it is actually a lot less than that. I've noticed that even checking it over an hour after shutting down and again the next morning the level indicated may have risen. Personally I prefer a good old fashioned dipstick, although it does check automatically each time you turn on the ignition which is no bad thing.

    I second that. Try comparing the 2 levels for the car on the same spot, but turned 180 degrees. would definitely recommend only adding 250mls the first time to avoid accidentally over-filling.
