Tires

i am looking to get new tires for my 03 C4 cab and was wondering what people recommended. I use it for everyday driving in mainly dry weather. Right now i have Michellin pilot sport, which work nicely, I was just wondering if there is anything better.

Stick with the Michelin's. They are at the top of the list of all factory installed tires.

He is correct, sold Porsches for over 20 years. The Pilots are my tire of choice.

However, let us make sure we're talking of the *right* Pilot Sport. Porsche has been installing what's called the Pilot Sport "Rib" tire since 2002. This is what that tire looks like:

The previously installed Pilot Sport is not as favorable as the above:

Yes, the Pilot Sport 2 is much the better tire, more like the MXX3 of the mid to late '90's, which is still one of the great all-time street tires. The Continental ContiSport 2 is also quite a nice tire, as is the S03, particularly if you drive in the wet a lot.

The short answer is NO.

Pilot Sport 2's are very nice tires. Their most important feature for me is that they DO NOT get all lumpy, D-shaped, or generally out-of-balance after a while like every other Porsche-approved tire I've ever had on 993's or 996's.

By the way, W8MM has posted a pic of the Pilot Sport, not the PS2, which is the one you want.

Oops, sorry about that. I thought it looked like it had a rim-saver rib at the edge. I got it from the Michelin web site, but I didn't spend much time proofing the pic.

For the record, that was NOT the Pilot Sport 2 aka PS2 picture I posted above. That tire is still not available in 285/30-18 size and probably won't be until the end of this year or early next year. The Pilot Sport Rib is still one of the best tires installed on the 996, however.
