    Does the sport shifter loosen up within 1,500 miles??

    Hi all,

    My local dealer received a 997S with essentially the options I wanted, so I was planning on buying it, but then I drove it, and I found the sport shifter required a lot more effort to shift than the regular shifter, which I did not like. The dealer said that within 1,500 miles, the shifter will loosen up as much as the normal shifter. Can anyone tell me if that is true or not? Also, does anyone have a strong preference for type of steering wheel, from a purely driver/comfort standpoint?

    The Porsche Sport Shifter does become easier to shift after some miles of use. I would say less than 1,500 miles. Both stock and Sport Shifter are hard to get into 1st and from 1st to 2nd, when the engine is cold. Once oil temp. rises to normal range, these shifts become easier. I find Sport Shifter much more positive than stock shifter and hardly a burden in daily use.

    Yes, even sooner than that. Depends on if you drive a lot in the city or highway.

    I really liked the "fat" steering wheel. Once I compared it to the standard leather wheel, it wasn't even close. Try it. If you want controls on your steering wheel, however, you won't be able to get the "fat" wheel...
