Test of Murcielago LP640 in sportauto

The most recent edition of sportauto includes a brief test of the new LP640.

While 0-1000kph acceleration is fairly OK with 3.9s the car was rather slow up to 200kph. The test car needed 12.7s for 0-200kph, nearly identical to the time of the old 580hp car, despite shorter gearing. Very strange.

BTW: The distance required 200-0 is around 147m, 17m (!) longer than in case of the 997GT3 which has been tested in the same issue of sportauto.

    Ouch!

Lamborghini Murciélago - Nardo Test 2004

    Motorart V 12
    Hubraum 6192 ccm
    Aufladung Sauger
    PS - UMin 580 PS - 7500/Min
    Nm - UMin 650 Nm - 5400/Min
    Motorlage/Antrieb Mittelmotor/Allrad
    Gänge/Schaltung 6/manuell
    Nardo Test in ams 12/2004
    Gewicht 1820 kg
    0 - 80 km/h - s
    0 - 100 km/h 3,7 s
    0 - 120 km/h - s
    0 - 130 km/h - s
    0 - 140 km/h - s
    0 - 160 km/h - s
    0 - 180 km/h - s
    0 - 200 km/h 12,5 s
    0 - 300 km/h 37,6 s
    400 m, stehender Start 11,8 s
    1 km, stehender Start 21,4 s
    Vmax 330 km/h
    100 - 0 km/h (kalt) - m
    100 - 0 km/h (warm) - m
    100 - 0 km/h (kalt) - m
    250 - 0 km/h 212 m

So the car is NO faster than the Old Murci, with 60 horsepower less. The only difference is, that the old one is .2 seconds faster to 100 km/h.

If the car wasn't malfunctioning, somebody at Lamborghini is going to get fired.

Re: Test of Murcielago LP640 in sportauto

    How does the 599GTB compare?

Re: Test of Murcielago LP640 in sportauto

lol 0-1000kph in 3,9 sec is more than fast enough for me...

But what is up with those times though... Must have been the car/conditions...

I guess that's because the Lambo is heavier

Re: Test of Murcielago LP640 in sportauto

no way..there is something wrong with the car or conditions .lambo claims 3.4 to 100..

Re: Test of Murcielago LP640 in sportauto

Not really surprised...Italian factory claims re: hp, accel and wt tend to be difficult to ever "confirm"...will be interesting to see what 599 really weighs and what accel nos. it produces vs factory claims

And given L will prob only be able to sell 150ish/yr 640s, likely produc variances are prob greater, since buyers are part of the "beta-testing" brigade....but they are "exclusive"....

L has always been known for weak brakes w/poor pedal feel and fade problems....the BMW of alleged supercars

Why can't L/Audi/VW figure out how to buy some competent brakes from P, esp given the various corporate cross-ownerships??? The 640 only costs $350K, w/$60K instant deprec....would think buyers would pay $25K for decent optional ceramics...

You are right. I mistakingly printed the test result of the Bugatti Veyron

Absolutely right. When I was reading the EVO article on the LP640 very recently, exactly the same idea crossed my mind: Lamborghini is still a very, very small manufacturer. Production is far from being standardized. Consequently, the question is: can one trust their performance claims and the technical quality of their products

I think, Ferrari has reached a different level. However, I am longing for the first tests of the 599GTB

That's horrible! The "old" Murcielago, in the Nardo Supertest, beat both the Enzo and the CGT in the braking department. This new model, supposedly improved, is outbraked by a GT3. That's what I call a definition of disaster.

Re: Test of Murcielago LP640 in sportauto

    I'm soooo happy I am getting a 997TT!

Re: Test of Murcielago LP640 in sportauto

In regards to the Murcielago's brakes, i have heard from a couple of service managers that its brakes are breaking.

    has anyone else heard this?

Apparently the disks are cracking. Guess when it weighs about 1800kgs...its got alot of work to do!

Re: Test of Murcielago LP640 in sportauto

Wow, the 997tt posted better numbers than that!

Have my doubts re: 599 as well....F only makes 500ish/yr....

F makes 5K/yr 430s but still doesn't have R&D resources for crash-testing/development of head/side airbags for 430/612, even ?8 yrs after every other relevant car mfr provided them on even $70K cars.....

Downsides of "exclusivity" in a tech-driven, R&D-intensive competitive world in which P/F/MB operate vs a high-end buyer base accustomed to daily-usable, fast, safe, comfortable, reliable cars (where SL/CL55 and 997TT hit the marketing "sweet spot"), but w/an intolerance for any real price increases during past 15 yrs....

Wow...thanks Crash. I hadn't seen that b4. Very interesting to see what happens with his quest. It defently made me think twice about Lambo's quild quality and after sale service. With those sorts of $$$, you want the best service out there!

Honestly, after seeing this, it would scare the Bejesus out of me to drive a Murcielago at high speed .
