    Dumb question on locking the doors

    For those of us who don't want to get carjacked, just how does one lock the doors when you're in the car? I just looked around in the car today and noticed that there is no door lock/unlock button (unless I'm blind..which is always possible). So, how do you keep the doors locked while driving?

    center of the dash, between the vents.....below the emergency flasher button :-)

    You can use the "set" button on the PCM to make the car lock as soon as you either put the key into the ignition or turn the ignition on (it locks even before starting the engine, unless you choose the other option, of having the doors lock as soon as the engine starts).

    I wouldn't put the car in "auto lock" mode. When I pump gas or just leave car in garage it always seems to click and buzz and rattle with a mind of its own. Someday at the worst possible time, if in autolock, a software bug is gonna lock you out with keys inside.

    BTW, NEVER EVER leave the keys in the car with the windows closed.

    And while we're at it: never leave keys in ignition if you value your battery's longevity.

    As I don't have the Sports Chrono option. I had the dealer set the locks to lock upon the Pcar reach approx. 6-7 mph. Works nice.

    Sweet, I want to do that also. Did they charge you any money for that?

    There was no charge for setting the locks. Took about 15 minutes and was done while I was introduced to the "service team". The service shop is not located near the showroom, otherwise it would/could have been done when I picked up the car. The lock options are explained in the manual and are Do It Yourself if you have the Sports Chrono option.

    MMD I am not sure if that's possible. For example, in the Cayenne, you cannot lock the car from the outside if the keys are located anywhere on the inside of the car (I have the comfort package - no need for key in the socket)...There are times when I seem to remember the C4 giving me a warning that the key was out of range - so I don't think that you can lock the keys inside...though I could be wrong!

It does too much stuff on it's own with all that software; taking the key with you at all times (no matter which "mode" it's in) sounds like an absolute must.     Anyone who leaves their keys in the ignition when re-fuelling is just asking for the car to be taken and driven away.

    I think I'd rather be locked out than lose it.

    MMD, you're right on target! Given the sensitive nature of the buttons on the key, I sometimes find the hood popped open on the car, and that deactivates the locks. However, once I close the hood so that the latch is engaged, the car will automatically lock itself a short time later without me having to use the key control!!

    NEVER, EVER, LEAVE YOUR KEY IN THE IGNITION. IF YOU'RE LOCKED OUT AND DON'T HAVE YOUR SPARE KEY, IT WILL COST YOU MORE THAN $200 (US) AND SEVERAL DAYS TO GET A REPLACEMENT FROM YOUR DEALER!!!!!
