Why so many GT2's for sale?

There are six 997 GT2's for sale at various OPC's here in the UK ranging from £104,000 to £120,000. 3 of these have been up for sale for more than 3 months!

Why?  Financial climate; Facelift around the corner; Hard to live with; Over supply?

The third point in your list I can exclude ("hard to live with") Smiley The GT2 is a perfect alrounder Smiley My advise: get one if the prices are indeed low. An all time classic (at least until the FL is available Smiley).

Financial climate or UK winter climate?? Smiley  GT-2 perhaps not the best car for the new global warming UK.... now with real snow.

Re: Why so many GT2's for sale?

Most people who buy a GT2 usually sell this car after some while. Why ? Because most of them think that they are buying a more powerful 911 Turbo but in reality, the GT2 is a completely different beast and not easy to drive at the limit.

It may also have to do with the current economic climate worldwide and/or the fact that many people are expecting a GT2 FL soon.

Re: Why so many GT2's for sale?

i too think that many people buy it as the über-turbo only to find out that it's a vry duffrent beast.

while it is tactlile and RELATIVELY useable as a daily driver it's not really a city car or highway warrior.

i think that spot is now occupied by th FL 997 turbo (pdk,sport-chrono) within the porsche chain AND beyond........

Re: Why so many GT2's for sale?

A lot of people buy these as toys and want to have a short period of fun then move them on without suffering huge depreciation. The problem for the GT2 is that at this price point there are a lot of attractive alternatives for used buyers to contemplate so the first owner usually has to get out of the car whilst it's still the current range topper, with the resulting "must have" fashion demand that brings, or face savage depreciation.

That does not really explain why there are so "many" in the market. Other people with the GT2 misconception would quickly buy the used cars... then sell them... then someone else would buy them... or do we think there were only 6 people like this in the UK? Smiley

Here in Switzerland there are 73 used 997.1 Turbo cars for sale and 18 used 997.1 GT2 cars. It would be interesting to see how that compares to the total number of these cars delivered to Switzerland.

If there really are more used cars like the GT2 in the market I would think it is down to the current financial climate. People are not willing to spend the money they used to (especially not for a car which depreciates that much).

This particularly applies to markets like London, Monte Carlo, Switzerland and some others where many such cars are bought not by permanent residents, but by affluent foreigners who live there just part of the year and buy a new "toy" each time.

ofcourse currently, as with many a commodity there are more sellers than buyers....
