Which car would be best suited...

I have been losing sleep trying to figure out which car is going to satisfy me. I know test driving them should be the answer, but its not that easy to walk into a dealership of Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini and say, "Can I drive that?"

    Criteria:
    - Need to have that power and the butterfly stomach feeling that inspires grins on not only my face, but my passengers too.

    - Since the street is where it will spend 99% of its time, it needs to be drivable and predictable when "playing".

    - Must be able to handle modifications without destroying its normal manners

    - And it does have to have some appeal to it
I have been juggling the 997TT and the Z06 for sometime now, but then a forum member mentioned a used Murcielago. Since quite a few of you guys have 1 of each, I would appreciate your input.

Re: Which car would be best suited...

If you can afford it go with the 997 Turbo. I have been thinking about upgrading my 997S to a turbo but still cannot justify the cost difference with the trade in. Also like you, I can't find a dealer in the bay area to test drive one. Porsche should make a rule that all dealers must keep one car for test drives! LOL! Most sell every allocation and you would be lucky to see one unless someone's car just came in or was serviced (at least in my neck of the woods).

If you want predictable and for mostly street driving, pick the 997TT. The Z06 is more raw, so I doubt it would fit your criteria.

Re: Which car would be best suited...

    997TT, no doubt about it.

Re: Which car would be best suited...

Get a 996 turbo and tune it

Why not do just that? You're planning to spend a very large sum of money and they would be making a very large profit at your expense . . .

    Don't be foolish.

Re: Which car would be best suited...

    Maverick,
power modifications and tuning. Or in the case of something like a Z06, i would have to modify the suspension to have more street manners.

I have tried; these cars are not readily available around here in MD. I was even willing to rent the cars for $3k a weekend to get the feel for the cars. Called 3 possibilities with no success. I could be considered foolish for just wanting one of these cars and even more foolish for willing to buy one, but I am not foolish enough to not do my homework. Hence, I'm asking for your comparisons and insight.

For everyone above why would you choose the 997TT in this case?

Re: Which car would be best suited...

Which Porsche dealerships did you try in MD?

I know test drives in 997TTs are difficult, but they shouldn't be impossible

    Len Stoler Porsche
    11309 Reisterstown Road
    Owings Mills, MD, 21117

    Porsche of Hunt Valley
    9800 York Road
    Cockeysville, MD, 21030

going to try Porsche of Tysons Corner next

However, i don't know of any Lambo dealers since Criswell stopped selling them. I don't know of any F car dealers either (around here)

Besides, a test drive is a test drive, people on here have each of these cars and know how they are, since they drive them almost everyday (or weekend)

Re: Which car would be best suited...

I would just post here and on some of the other porsche sites asking anyone with a TT in your area if they'd be willing to give you a ride. You may have to drive a bit to get to them, but being on the east coast it should not be too difficult.

    Re: Z06.

Go to Sold 997 Turbo, you can read my comparisons on both cars.
