If they price it above 100k EUR in Europe, they will fail. No matter how good the car is.
May not even be an issue as rumor has it the Corvette won’t be exported to the EU because certification costs are too high. We will get to savor a powerful mid-engined speed demon for a price roughly equivalent of that of the Alpine.

I think brake longevity (among many other advantages) was likely a reason for the switch to mid-engine chassis. Will help share the load with the rear brakes...

About six months ago, one came across an analysis from an engineer on the Corvette team where they realized even with the C7, a front engine configuration would not meet performance goals. The compromise was a longer wheelbase to accommodate torque delivery to the road but they did come to the conclusion that the next generation would need a mid-engine configuration to allow for increased performance.

In only a few weeks we will know if this is just a bigger Fiero or something better than the weight of its parts.
Re traction, in McLaren and others mids, traction is increasingly an E-diff programming skillset - no idea if GM has obtained the enough tech in this area to do what you’re asking?

Steering wheel is off center from the column and the rear end looks copied from the Chevy Cruz econo box. Why oh why?
This might have looked cool in the 90s but it already looks dated and cheap. Tragic design fail.
GM needs to offer a wrap that makes it look like a Performante.

Yes. Their demographics hit that spot. The older hot rod gen has died off or is in nursing homes.
Unfortunately GM has a design studio that is a fail center. They ruined the Camaro update, their trucks and now this.

That is indeed the question. I think JimFlats comment has a basis in fact, but there is also an argument that even US based Corvette is influenced by the horsepower / performance wars coming from EU makers. They feel they need to make the argument that the Corvette can offer Euro performance for 1/3 the price. If being Front engine finally prevents them from making that claim, that could push the bosses to say - go mid engine or go home. To put it another way, Corvette may have been faced with the choice of being a nostalgia play vs a competitive performance play, and chooses the second one.

KMM:Remarkable! Another unrelated Rennteam thread transforms into a Performance thread! Except this time because of the car's aesthetics, not because of a posting by RC.
Speaking of aesthetics: Something is bothering me regarding this interior (same goes to the exterior, the rear part we've seen so far). I think GM missed a chance here: They could have created an amazing mid-engined US sports car, a future classic. Instead, they kind of created a sports car Frankenstein, which just doesn't seem to look good. I see design elements from Ferrari, from GM (Camaro/Corvette) and other manufacturers, it just doesn't look "clean", too over-styled. Again GM missed an opportunity here to make the Corvette an "international" sports cars. What a shame.

Audi did something similar with the unveiling of its e-tron in San Francisco. With Audi, it was tied to a conference on the environment and it maximized the available global market. Interesting that the Corvette debut will take place in an old WWII blimp hanger.
