    Tip Acceleration update

would like to know if anybody was able to get even somewhere near the porsche claimed 3.7 sec 0-100 km/h ??

i think its impossible without violently torque-braking, which was discussed before and concluded to be very harmful to the car...

basically the time claimed by porsche is not doable....
my best run from standstill was 4,2 sec.

anybody else can offer more insight ?

wouldn't this be false advertising by porsche ?

my friends sl55 is listed at 4,6 sec and delivers on the spot. if his f430 delivers on the spot as well, then i will have no chance of keeping up and am going to loose a long standing bet.

    Re: Tip Acceleration update

Everyone cliams that Porsche is usually very conservative with their claimed acceleration times. How they reached those times probably does require stress on the car. It is no different than any other car manufacturer.

BTW the TT is AWD drive and doubt very much the 430 will beat you in acceleration.

3.7s is true but only after you reached at least 5000km's on clock(engine need to loose up as well as transmission, it is not very wise to torque-brake your car before 5000km's point as you did with yours...).

I tried 997 Turbo TIP(and did not like it...) and I was able to achive 3.8s without any problems. In fact my friend form Germany was very impressed with TIP(NOT me). But, this car had 11000km's on clock and you need to very carefully follow some pretty stupid procedure as described in Edmunds test(I follow it!):

"Here's the routine: Press the "Sport" button; engage 1st gear (the transmission defaults to 2nd); mash both pedals to the floor until the overboost indicator illuminates on the dash; release the brake; hold on.

When the brake is released, the Turbo reveals everything Porsche has learned about accelerating quickly in 43 years of building the 911. Which is, well, a lot, but because of the unpredictability of the time it takes for the boost to build with both feet pushed to the floor, it's virtually impossible to synchronize your launch against a stoplight. Get it wrong and the kid in the big-winged Mitsubishi Evo will get the drop on you. "

BTW, they achived 0-60mph in 3.4s...

German AMS achived 0-100km/h in 3.6s with torque-braking as well(this test car bad 6700km's on clock)...

Maybe you harmed your car with premature torque-braking on your(still too young in km's) car

    hey kreso,

thank you for your input. the method edmunds applied is torque braking as well. i would not see a difference as to how many km's or miles the car has run in order to apply this method.

it stresses the driveline i guess. new or broken in or old. will not make a difference.

however, i am sure that it is possible to torque brake safely to about 3000 rpm without haring anything. the driveline of such a car should easily be able to handle'that sress.

hope i will be able to see those 3,7-3,8 too.

    enjoy.

i adivce you to change your engine oil .. the car will be faster .. i change my 997tt oil after 1,000km and i feel the different ...after that change it every 10,000km .. but you must add oil at this period ..

    Re: Tip Acceleration update

I don't have a timer but was having a friendly race with a friend yesterday, who has a F430 F1 coupe.

I have a tip turbo and was in auto mode. Probably defaulted into 1st gear as I was driving fairly aggressively before coming to a stop.

We rolled down the window and were chatting when he sneaked up on me as the lights turned green.. He had a slight head start, but I just stepped on it (without launch control obviously) and still decisively beat him.
