    911 S/T

My dream car is finally out.

I've been waiting for this car for over two years but I can't get one because Porsche Korea is lazy enough not to import any manual cars into Korea as they say they need to go through separate certification.

Either this is true or they are arrogant enough to think there's no market for manual driven Porsches in Korea.

PS Porsche sold 309,884 cars in Korea during 2022.

    Re: 911 S/T

That gear box must be a treat ! And the fast reving engine the icing on the cake.

Is there no other possibility for you?

Order in another country?  Keep it in that country or have it sent to S.Korea on temporary number plates?

Why not try to have a frank discussion with Porsche management in S.Korea?

    Re: 911 S/T

The moment the news broke for the ST, I informed Porsche I am not taking mine.

It was a big mistake they put manual instead of PDK in there. And there is not much difference between it and the Touring. And extra 20hp? I dare anyone to say they can feel that. Some 40kg lighter? Take one less passenger. It really doesn't matter how light Porsche can make it, the 992 still takes up an acre of real estate on the road and there is no way around that on tight twisty roads.

1963 cars? Way too many for 'special' cars, that's more than the total of my 3.6 AND the Exclusive added together.

The 'collectors' however wouldn't mind the manual box, they just parked theirs in a giant garage and that's it, won't even get driven. I suspect at least 1500 of those will be stored parked tucked away somewhere like a Mona Lisa painting. Heck, maybe 1750 even.

    Re: 911 S/T

The big difference with the touring is the plus 100.000 Euro price laugh I am pretty shure Porsche will make a 992.2 GT3 RS-Touring. A bit what happend with the 911 R. I find it strange that the make this car with manual gear box and roll overcage. Doubt this car will ever see a track.

    Re: 911 S/T

Is kind of like making the SC with a manual.....pretty stupid for a Turbo Car.

Agree, PDK should have been an option, but then it kills the light weight story. They have shaved the model differences so thin that, in the process, they have exhausted the technology to make thinner blades. And there is so much model overlap that even diehard Customers are confused and bewildered.

    The Safari stands apart!

It's actually only an extra 15hp (525PS vs 510PS) Smiley  But I think the 8% lower gearing and very fast revving character with lightweight clutch and Single Mass Flywheel are going to make this car so fun to drive.

I think you're making a mistake not taking it (or you would be making a mistake if you didn't already have plenty of special cars).  Smiley

This car will be fun with Manual Smiley

Wasn't there an issue with road cars for the US having factory cages? Did something change?

No, still can't get a cage in US...

So all the S/T's heading your way will be even lighter!

The cage seems to be inconsistent with the target audience of canyon and B-road drivers, Perhaps it is a zero-cost option and can be deleted for ROW?

I agree. That is the part that makes the ST interesting.

I am disappointed about the outside look. Would of liked a bit more difference with a Touring. Like adding different front and back rims. Paint the back lower bumper in another color.

I stil don't like the 992 generally as a shape. Too big, too high, too round....

I thought the GT3 Touring is a good offer from Porsche but prices went up and right now, I don't know...

The ST? I was eyeing this car for a while but when I heard about the price tag... Smiley Not a fan of manual either but I guess this is a very interesting car for those who suffer from 911 nostalgia Smiley. I prefer PDK though.

    Re: 911 S/T

Basically the S/T is a GT3 RS with Touring Package.

In the case of the GT3, the Touring model is the same price as the Big Wing model.

In the case of the S/T the asking price is 50.000 EUR extra. Why?

Besides, the "rifle bolt" manual gear changes, the lighter clutch and the single mass flywheel might excite a certain type of enthusiast and Porsche should rightly give this choice, but why no double clutch gearbox?

Anyway, the shape looks very attractive especially in the featured Shore blue colour but without the heritage design. There are subtle body changes between the S/T and the GT3 Touring, so the two models are not alike.

Only mistake would be the investment side of car buying. Which I don't really care. I buy a car to drive, if I don't have nay use for one, I might as well not buy one.

I was thinking if I buy one, where or when will I drive it. I can't think of a single scenario where I would take it over say my GT4RS, my 918, or even my turbo 3.6. Like zero chance.

For car and coffee I default to the 918 just so more people can see and touch the car in real life. Mountain roads? 4RS for sure. Best car for the job, BEST driving feel car from Porsche in a long long time. For the times when I want to roll my own gear, nothing gave me more satisfaction by perfecting shifts in the 3.6, it's all ME, car did nothing to help, not even giving straight shot gear slots which offers zero challenges.

The S/T is limited, the RS is not.

    Re: 911 S/T

Why 50k more? It’s called “the road to 20.”

    Re: 911 S/T

Quick way to book $600+ mil revenue on the ST.

It was minimum cost for Porsche to do such a parts bin special.

A Dakar has many many more bespoke parts and development.

A 992 GT3RS has many many more bespoke parts and even more development.

The 991 911R had a purpose fro existence, it was the beta car for development on the GT3 Touring, especially the new 6-speed gearbox.

As I understand, the single mass flywheel came straight from the 911R parts bin, the carbon roof is a regular production item, the carbon doors, the carbon read deck and the roll bar were of minimum cost to Porsche to make. The engine was already done for the GT3RS. About the only 'expensive' item was the carbon hood. And it carries the standard 992 interior with nothing bespoke. Very unlike even the Exclusive which has a completely bespoke Exclusive interior treatment that never went on any other car. Not to mention the copper infused carbon weave trims or the bespoke power kit. Magnesium wheels, cool, but Porsche already have the lighter carbon wheels, why not use those? Cause the carbon wheels are more expensive.

I am a Porsche fanatic and faithful, yet I failed to see the point of the ST other than a parts bin special money grab. And I will defend just about any Porsche model for their existence, even the CGT.

Rough napkin math says Porsche will make at least 150 mil profit on the ST, if not 200 mil.

I do reward Porsche with my money when they make truly nice cars, the ST isn't one of those.

The RS might not be numbered to 1963 units but in effect it will be limited. I doubt if more that 4.000 will be built.

I understand the difference, but Porsche are asking the customer to pay extra for some potential future value appreciation rather than for any extra technology and performance.

    You beat me to it.

Off the top of my head:

    50 year

    Speedster

    Targa Heritage

    Turbo S Exclusive

    Sport Classic

GT3 RS Tribute to RS (the US white with green paint)

    Drakkar

    S/T

I think the Belgians, Dutch and French all got their own specials as well.  How many am I missing?

Value maximizing to generate cash flow and profits to reinvest in the new EV portfolio.

    Re: 911 S/T

I config-ed a ST, it came out to be north of CAD$430k.

    Hmmm, really?

My Dakar will be a Oct production, still not firm on whether I have PTS or not, my PTS config came out to be CAD$330k, my non-PTS one is at $305k.

A ST is a $100k more than the more special Dakar?!?!?!

Seems like Porsche has priced in the dealer ADM into the car already.

For that price, I will be much better off buying another turbo 3.6. Those are much more limited in numbers and price wise is just about the same if not higher right now.

A 911R also represent a better value at the moment, another much more limited production car and price has also came down to the 3-400k range.

Heck, for someone with that kind of budget to buy such a car, they are better off paying slightly more and get a Speciale instead.

A regular Touring sent to Manthey for magnesiums and suspension etc would do very nicely to come close, but love the new model nonetheless. Parts bin or not.
