    AMS Supertest of Evora 400

    Anyone see the results?  AMS gave the Evora 400 a five-star rating apparently.  But Ring time was only 7:59 (pretty disappointing), but I don't know on what tires or conditions.

    Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, HHR: 1:12,3 min, 0-100 kph in 4,7 s, 0-200 kph in 15,5 s. Measured power: 417 hp.

    This is super slow for such a car. Smiley

    Maybe Lotus should start to decide what kind of cars they want to build: Affordable light weight track toys or super sportscar exotics. They cannot do both, this won't work.

    McLaren has chosen the right strategy and it seems to work for them. Time for Lotus to change theirs.

    I think the NBR & Hockenheim laps would look better with Cup 2's rather than Super Sports.  This should at least be an option on the car (which is intended to compete with GT4).

    Usually the track oriented Lotus models are called "Cup" or the like.  I think the Evora 400 is very much intended to be a road car.  

    Initial test drives have been positive from people I've talked to...far more engaging car than a normal 911.  Lap time is puzzling though given the power-to-weight.  (EDIT: Maybe N-ring speed restrictions partly to blame?)

    Still, it says something that I am a huge Lotus fan and still bought a GT4 over the 400 when spending my own $100k USD.  Greatly looking forward to the next Elise though.

    I wish the GT4 had steering as good as the hydraulic rack in the 400, otherwise, I like GT4 better in almost all respects.  What are the rumors about the next Elise?

    The GT4 steering tells you only what is necessary to drive the car fast.  I drove the Elise and GT4 back to back this weekend.  The Elise remains a sensory overload.

    Haven't heard any rumors, I don't think Lotus is very far down the development road for rumors to leak out.  If the new Alpine is really 2300 .lbs and 300hp, then they will face stiff competition.

    I think it's super cool and have a ton of presence, and I think old seats like it has are way more comfortable and plush than anything modern I've ever sat in. Not going to comment on any performance aspect since it's, well, old. I did spin the tires since it was wearing summer tires and it was like 0F outside. It feels super low too. Maybe because it's flat on top or maybe because it really is that low. It was a 99 and in very good condition, and I love the yellow paint on it. My friend is thinking about wrapping it though since he's not crazy about yellow. I told him to leave it though since a yellow Esprit is totally the color it was meant to have. Very Lotus.

    As cool as it looks, I'd never be able to drive it. There is no dead pedal in it and the clutch is super heavy. Steering column isn't adjustable and my knees nearly touched the steering wheel. Gas and break pedal super close together, and though maybe it was just my friend's car, the gas pedal had a lot of play in it so I wasn't really used to giving it the right amount of throttle. I'm sure I'd get used to the brakes, throttle, and shifting, but the ergonomics mean I could never own one. Just too uncomfortable.

    Yeah, I didn't adapt well to the driving position either.  Wasn't a fan of the gearbox either, but it is just a cool car for sure kiss

    A modern version of the Esprit, at an affordable price and with modern tech, would have been surely a path to success for Lotus. The moment I saw that white Esprit in a James Bond movie ("The Spy Who Loved Me"), I was hooked.
