    Only hybrid actually making sense (from a petrolhead's point of view) is the upcoming Cayenne Turbo S.

    Does it come with a much larger battery than the hybrid S?

     

    Battery pack in both is the same, so is the e-motor. 

    Instead of the forgettable V6, Porsche stuff it with a proper engine from the Turbo.

    See Panamera Turbo S, exact same drivetrain.

    Well, those two example are irrelevant because there is no way in a hell a mass produced generic car is going to appreciate in value.

    How much would a 67 Mustang be worth if there were 100K of them in excellent condition? Classic cars are like baseball cards -- most got destroyed and now they are rare. If so many of them didn't end up in the scrapyard, they'd be worth next to nothing.

    Maybe in 60 years a 2017 G Wagon will be worth something, but probably not much at all.

    Saying the cost of a $1M solution is relative to a mass produced SUV is dumb. Saying a 20XX G Wagon might appreciate because a 67 Mustang did is dumb.

    An ideal power train from a mass produced SUV cannot be obscenely expensive because as t -> infinity, value goes to $0.

    An ideal power train from a mass produced SUV cannot be obscenely expensive because as t -> infinity, value goes to $0.

    I never discuss depreciation on cars, simply because it is difficult to make an appropriate and accurate assessment. 

    For me, a car is a fun thing, a toy, something to use and have fun in it. Not an investment.

    this is what isn't being said about Teslas sales success in certain locales, most of their sales are takeaways from Mercedes and BMW, which likely is due to owners tired of BMW and Mercedes service visits, warranty issues and huge depreciation. Few s class and 7r owners use their cars for long trips in the US anyway so a plug in ev makes sense.

    I have had a deposit down on the new G63 for a while now (the Mrs fancies one so she can play at being a WAG angry) and got notification today that in the UK head office has updated the boutique ordering system with the new G-Wagon model so my details have been added into the system, he said from what he can see I am "first on the list" - bit different to the GT2RS list, not many people want a massively depreciating behemoth indecisionmail

    Depends on the trim of course, but the G Wagon residuals are among the best for SUVs in this price range. High-end Cayennes or uber high-end Bentaygas could only dream of G residuals.

    Yes hopefully you correct...... I was told last night of someone who picked up a Bentayga under a year old, £210K cost  new for £150K

    Depending on spec, a first edition bentayga is $100k under sticker already in the US.

    Exotic SUVs are just beaters for rich people and they tank in value just as much. The G Class has a much more enthusiastic following, while also happening to be a status symbol among the wealthy. So yeah they depreciate a decent amount, but it's the Enthusiast following that tends to buoy prices.

    When I traded in my G63 after 3 years, I pretty much got back what I paid for. And the car even had a expensive accident.

    Mercedes had been raising MSRP every year for the car. That helps a lot. Plus the constant shortage of incoming cars.

    The G550 is the one that doesn't hold value, no one wants them. It is too close in price to the G63 an everyone just go for the higher spec model.

    I guess its better to get that old G class then noone1

    I really do not care about the technology in those infotainment systems. A phone today is much better than anything they could offer, just lets have Apple Car play and Android auto. I prefer to focus on aspects of the car that makes driving a joy.

    As you all know, I'm all for an EV powertrain and not into chassis with "character", but the main deterrent from buying the old G was how dated and shit the interior was. I expected the new one to be amazing and modern. This is garbage.
