    Sold 997 Turbo.

I sold my red Turbo after two weeks of ownership. Reasons for sale complicated. I purchased new Z06 today, it will be delivered on Tuesday. Left deposit with Porsche dealer on GT2. If the members would like me to I will post comparisons later.
    Thanks.

We would very much like to learn about the reasons for sale...as they relate to vehicle ownership experience.

Considering he said he put a deposit on a GT2, I think I know why he sold the 997TT

    Re: Sold 997 Turbo.

Thanks, you are seeing a big part of why I sold the Turbo. My 997S I knew would not feel like a true power ride. And I read the post that stated the Turbo was fast but in my words "not the power ride". The Z06 looks like power, sounds like power and when you press the pedal it instantly puts power to the wheels.

And from what I've read the GT3 is like that. So the GT2 should really be King of the Hill when it is released.

    Re: Sold 997 Turbo.

The GT2 is also turbo-charged. It remains to be seen what the turbo lag will be like.

    ...and the sound!

IMO the missing sound is what the turbo experience is lacking. The car is fast as hell, but you don't see it, you don't hear it -- you just don't notice it.

At this juncture where the new 600hp Viper is being launched that will out-run the Z06 and the new 650hp SS Corvette is due wouldn't you consider waiting a little bit?

I'll get to test drive a Z06 this weekend, can't wait to test it out myself .

    Re: Sold 997 Turbo.

looking forward to your comprehensive analysis of the z06

Re: High speed back road miles.

I took the Z06 for a ride on my favorite road to put some miles on it and to feel out the car. Still on breakin miles had to stay under 4000 rpm. Stayed in 4th gear but still scream form curve to curve. The 997S has'nt a chance against this car. I wish my S could've of matched even this much.

Re: High speed back road miles.

HL, please continue to give us more update on your Z06.

    Re: Z06 after breakin.

I put the last of the 500 breakin miles on the car yesterday. Today I took the Z06 out on nice curvy road with short straights. The car rockets between curves but does not inspire the confidence of the Porshe going into the curves. I need more seat time to sort that out.

I made two standing start runs. This car scary fast under full power. I need more seat time to sort this out.

The turbo is also just as fast but in a quiet way. The turbo builds confidence from the first moment you let the clutch out. The turbo needs rpm to really feel the speed. The Z06 just needs a touch of the loud pedal. The turbo is very quiet when passing traffic, my brother says the Z06 sounds like a Nascar stocker when I passed him.

I will be tracking the Z soon, I hope the track time will allow me to become more confident with its raw power.

    Re: Z06 after breakin.

    Do you miss your TT?

Re: Do I miss the 997 Turbo?

Yes I do. The turbo was much easier to just get in and drive. The VY Z06 will not let me just drive it, when the exhaust barks at start up, I know I'm going to go fast. I just cann't drive 55 in it. The turbo didn't make those kind of demands, feed the gas in and quietly go down the road.

Re: Do I miss the 997 Turbo?

At least you are experiencing two of the best cars on the market. You lucky man

More importantly, he stated he has a deposit down on a 997GT2.

Re: Do I miss the 997 Turbo?

    Yes that's awesome

    Re: Z06 after breakin.

How is the comparison coming? Any new joys or complaints?

    Re: Z06 after breakin.

Main difference in handling: The 997's use a mechanical steering box that increases the input of the steering wheel when the wheels go over 30 degrees of input. That takes out the wondering over the road when going straight. You only need two fingers on the steering wheel.

The Z06 has direct steering input which means that it is prone to wonder over imperfections in the road surface. You must keep two hands on the steering wheel to make adjustments. Really scary in the rain.

I now have 600 miles on the Z06. I have tried to make two all out runs from a standing start. So far third gear is as far as I've gone, aborted both runs due to pucker factor. The car throws your stomach into your backbone.I have not driven a car that accelerates so fast. I am going to have to get more seat time. I should be going to a DE in March. I hope that the track time will allow me to get use to the acceleration rate.

I have given rides to friends that like speed and all they can say is "oh S T" when I put it to the floor.

I would say that the Porsche would be easier to drive at high rates of speed. The Z06 is really a exciting car to drive, you never get bored.

    Re: Z06 after breakin.

    Congrats! Thanks for the comparison.

    Re: Z06 after breakin.

thanks for the honesty as to how quick these cars really are ...and the need to have a similar high driving skill level ( that many here, myself definitely included, do not have at the present time ) prior to fairly safely exploring the outer limits
