    2009 Belgian F1 Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps

F1 races on back to back weekends - it looks like Red Bull might prefer conditions at Spa-Francorchamps... but Vettel appears to have very few engines left for the remainder of this season.

Can Jenson Button rediscover his calmness or is the prospect of winning the Driver's World Title finally making him 'choke' from nervousness? Brawn may struggle if the weather conditions are cooler... I also doubt Rubens Barrichello will play a support role - since he can also win the title.

Will Ferrari actually keep Luca Badoer in a race seat following his laughably poor performance at Valencia?

I expect McLaren to remain very strong...

I can't believe that Jarno Trulli may leave Toyota if he doesn't get a 2 year deal - who else would give him a race seat? Maybe one of the new teams in 2010...

Williams continue to underperform - I can't believe they want to keep Nakajima. He may be cheaper to pay but he just isn't delivering...

I was impressed by Romain Grosjean in Valencia - hopefully, in his second race he can make a bigger impact.

I also wonder what Heidfeld and Kubica will be doing next year - they both didn't do as badly in Valencia as they have been doing all season... if only they could have performed better earlier.

After the IMHO boring track at Valencia, I am really looking forward to seeing the racing action at a much more challenging circuit like Spa-Francorchamps Smiley Hopefully, it will be a more exciting race  Smiley

Re: 2009 Belgian F1 Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps

A lot of good points easy_rider. I think this years race at Valencia was definitely better than last years.

I too think that Red Bull will be stronger at Spa. It is one of my favorite races and I would like to see Vettel do well. His engine situation could really hamper his performance with the possibility of the team using lower revs.

Button and the car have had their issues and I certainly don't see Rubino moving over after his public outbursts about Ferrari and Brawn.

I don't see Ferrari keeping Luca past Spa and personally, I feel Gene would do better.

Kers is helping McLaren and they have come in leaps and bounds. I would love too see them with two very strong drivers.

Trulli is in denial thinking that he has many options left as he isn't a consistent driver.

I think there is a big possibility that Rosberg will exit Williams and that we might see him at McLaren.

Grosjean did a great job and wasn't far behind Alonso in pace during qualifying. I think he has the potential to do well at Renault as long as Flavio likes him.

We still have to see what will happen to BMW-Sauber. Heidfeld has never really impressed me although I can say the opposite with Kubica.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next and Spa is a test of man and machine.

Re: 2009 Belgian F1 Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps

@917962: I agree - Marc Gene would have been a better choice. Let's see if Ferrari drops the sentimentality and starts making more rational decisions.

About the BMW Sauber drivers, I agree, Kubica has raw pace. At the right team, he would do very well. Heidfeld IMHO has been living on borrowed time for quite some months now. He has very few podiums in his long career and IMO will be lucky to find a seat in a competitive team in 2010.

Jenson Button says "I'm not feeling any pressure"

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8225504.stm

Hah! Who is he trying to fool?  He hasn't won a race in some time now, his lead is ebbing away, he is making more mistakes as the pressure mounts and then he has the nerve to claim he is not feeling any pressure. Those mind games won't fool anyone.

I still want him to win - but he needs to stop talking - be a man Jenson - go out there and win

Re: 2009 Belgian F1 Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps

He is starting to crack! He certainly didn't envision himself leading the drivers standings pre-season. He has never been in this position and is seeing it all crumble. I'm sure he is still wondering whether their tyre warm-up problems are an issue. We have to remember that everyone was saying how smooth he is and that he doesn't make any mistakes. I can't really fault his driving as we know that much of the teams developments have hindered the car.

VET and HAM didn't practice? Saving the engine (VET hasn't many more engines left for this season)?

Re: 2009 Belgian F1 Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps

I think there was some rain and track conditions weren't all that ideal - so some drivers may be waiting till 2nd Practice

BTW, 2nd Practice is currently in progress and AFAIK all the drivers are out there taking advantage of some drier conditions Smiley

What a weird starting grid!  The only constant being Luca Bad-oer in last place.

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78107

I fancy Raikkonen  gaining 2-3 places with his KERS car at the start and pushing all the way. Barrichello is well poised too for back to back wins. Button? Where is the championship leader?

Button has lost his bottle, the start of the tyre temperature story back around 4 races ago has always been a load of BULL, as soon as the RBR's turned up the heat thats when the excuses started flying..

Even after this race he (JB) is going to find himself around 10 points ahead of the second place driver, due to loads of luck in past races..If he looses this chance at the championship he only got himself to blame, poor handling of pressure comes to mind..

Jenson has really lost it - his season is suddenly unravelling before our eyes...

JB needs to get his finger out. RB seems to be cutting it.

On another note, for those who have driven a track day at SPA will know exactly what Au Rouge is like, but driving flat through there at 200mph made my toes curl.  Spectacular.

Well done Fisi! Maybe we see him in the Ferrari seat now, I have my doubts that Badoer will be able to catch up anytime soon... Better give him the time to develop his driving.

I am happy Raikkonen is much alive

    last 3 GPs 2nd, 3rd and win.

Re: 2009 Belgian F1 Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps

I really enjoyed today's race - Fisi was superb  I wonder if he will drive for Ferrari in Monza  One thing's for sure, Badoer is surely history... Sutil must feel frustrated at not coming anywhere near his team mate.

Kimi drove well but owes his win to the KERS button

A great race for BMW Sauber

Button and Hamilton were unlucky to get hit from behind by Grosjean and Alguersuari

Vettel drove a good race - quietly made his way up through the field:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8228497.stm

For someone who is trying to keep his place at McLaren, Kovaleinen was invisible today...

Alonso was unlucky that his front left wheel was hit - which then caused his pit stop to take ages...

Williams and Toyota were also invisible again...  And another poor race by Webber.

Re: 2009 Belgian F1 Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps

A lot of people are forgetting that, during the first period of this season, Brawn had the advantage of two important elements...

    1) The rear diffuser situation very much enhanced their performance.

    2) Honda had spent most of last season developing this year's car.

The result was six wins out of the first seven races for Jensen Button.

The diffuser issue is now even-steven and all the other teams have had time to sort out this year's car.  Button no longer has these advantages.

The gap in performance, throughout the field, is the closest for decades.  Jensen will have to work very hard to close out his initial advantage.

It all makes for a most interesting finale to the season... which is very good for F1 in general..

    Hey guys,

Arrived back from the F1 in one piece, after a terrible trip back, with more than 3 hours of traffic jam :P

First visit to an F1 race for me, we had a great trip, and saw an exciting race with some very nice actions, of which some happened right in front of our noses.

I loved the porsche cupcars too, and luckily, they were a bit easier to take pictures of than the F1 cars!

I was able to make some nice pictures, see gallery here.

    -Joost-

PS, Throt, thanks for the tip, I needed them! ;-)

My favorite is the one with Hamilton , he looks mightily pissed!
