    cool gadget for my cabriole??? is it real??

    I just found this really cool thing called the smart-top. with it, I can open and close
    my roof while driving. does anybody have any feed back about this thing? It has a two
    year warranty and claims to be a plug-and-play unit. can this be possible. and why haven't
    I heard of this before?

    I had it on my Boxster (Tech-Art) and it works great. Never had a problem with it. You can operate it with a single touch to speeds upto 40kph.

    I put one on my 02 Cab and it works amazingly well. Don't have to put the brake on; don't have to hold the button in and the rear windows will come up with the top down. I say it's worth the money. It's on a header on the Rennlist website. Installation is a snap.

    the hood on my car opens and closes at speeds of up to 30mph??? (that's straight from the factory?)

    one thing i've found frustrating tho is that on the key there is a button to open and close the roof... but when it closes, it doesn't close the windows?? the dealer tells me this can't be changed??

    i agree monkey, i don't know why it doesn't close the windows, don't think porsche thought things through

    This Smart-Top solves that problem, too, according to their website. I am gonna order one this week and then I'll let you know.

    it should solve the key-chain window issue for 911's, too.

    How old is your car?

    If it's older than MY 2004 let it be. The problem is that the waranty is only for the aftermarket-unit not for the whole softtop-mechanism. Am I right?

    yea, kf, but it's too late. I bought one and had it installed. It works great!!
    The safty doesn't let it work if the car is going over 40 kmh or 30mph. Because it is a plug-and-play, I can always switch it out. I am very happy.

    But be carefull. The softtop isn't firm enough for this tool. Please don't open your top by having wind.
    A friend told me, that his dealer doesn't repair his damaged top over porsche waranty, because he has installed such a plug and play. His car is only one year old.

    Advice, take it out when you bring your car for service and replace it by the original unit. They can never tell..

    Yes. My Cab also has this feature and you may open or close your top up to 35mph. I have actually used this while in slow traffic situations when the sun was too hot. Nice feature.

    Same here (from the factory) but that because it's a 997. Being able to open and close the top at 30mph is great.

    Did you say there is a button on the key to open and close the top ?

    Porsche 1st introduced the on road softop on the 2003 c4s cabrio and 2003 turbo cabrio.It opens and closes in speeds up to 50 km/h.

    If i'm not wrong techart had already launched before a similiar feature but i think it was only up to 20 km/h.The 997 Cabrios and Boxster's also have this feature (awsome feature by the way).

    In the 997, at speeds up to 10 km/h if i'm not wrong you have to press the button and stay pressed for some seconds so that the top can open/close wich makes in my opinion perfect sense.

    I dont knwo if the on road softop was first introduced by Porsche or it already existed on the old american cruiser automobiles.

    In my previous post when i said "Porsche 1st intro..." i was refering to the first time that Porsche introduced this system to their cars.
