"I didn't do it"
I got an christmas card from my Bimmer Dealer which had for each quarter the news in (i.e. Z4) nothing really new for us - except they mention a novelity for the 4th quarter where they didnt say what the Model will be called or will be, they just write "you will be surprised". I guess they meant this model!
Thanks for the link - very interesting! Just not sure if another "R" Class or "Panamera" will make it?

BMW cancelled the CS and greenlighted this? Wow - FAIL.
They should have cancelled the X6 - that hideous thing looks like a warmed over Isuzu Vehicross.

...the only thing stopping you, is you!
I agree on the X6 , not my cup of tea at all even though I have the 08 X5...
What was the BMW point of the X6 anyway??...

See - so different are the opinions and taste. I love the X6, think this is an awesome looking car!
Yes as evidenced by the woman thread in O/T. I think this new hatchback is really an ugly duckling that fits more with subaru. BMW should have made the CS, downsized the the 7 series to replace the 5 series and drop the 5 series.
I also think the X6 is the best looking and driving luxury SUV.
That is what I would like to see, not necessarily what would be best for their bottom line.
Many BMW and Mercs are narrow cars, on the 3 series this is OK as it is a small overall coupe and it looks great. The 7 series is wide but a little too long making it quite a barge. If they shrunk all dimensions proportionally of the 7 series down to match the length of the 5 series it would be wider than the 5 and have a more pleasing shape, substantial w/o being a barge.
I had a 300 merc sedan, it was narrow.I look at cars when I see them on the road, i notice things. Look how small a clk is from a few years ago, really small. BMW 5 series is a compromise, eh-blahh. The 3 looks great, the 7 series looks - "Hey I'm a success", the 5 series looks like a german taurus. just my opinion.
The CS could take over the ostentacious flagship role.

Why should they drop their most successful car ?
X6 was interesting when it was launched, but today if I had to choose between X5 and X6, I would rather pick X5..
The 3-Series is BMW's most successful and profitable model, not the 5.

Ah, the classic question ... why is the wheel track so narrow on these European cars.
There's one primary reason which I discovered about 10 years ago and made things obvious. To us American's it would never be an issue.
The roads in Europe, especially in the cities and up in the mountainous regions are NARROW. They were built primarily for horse and carriage, way before the anyone ever thought about a car, it's turning radius, or how you swing open a door and not block the road.
Yup, so it's primarly road width and track that sets the maximum wheel track on a lot of these European cars (super exotics like Fer and Lam) or specialty one-offs excluded.

Could be, I was just guessing because in my country 5 series (E60) is defenetly most common BMW and one of most common car owerall. I had 5 series and I think its perfect car for most people - 3 series is too small and 7 series is too big for most people.
racerx: Its subjective, but I think 7 series design wouldn't work on 5 series. I think F01 design works on 7 series because it is the biggest BMW and is flagship - it looks like a "beast" but its OK since its the biggest BMW. Its funny how everyone in front of me move over on highway when I am closing gap to them, that never happened with any car I had. But I agree with you, CS would be great car. I heard that "CS project" isn't dead yet...
And one good photoshop of new 5 series (made by "andyvalencia"). Kidneys with front bumper are real, and lights are quite accurate too.

Ziggy:
Shakal, which FO1 variant do you drive, 730d or 750i?
In case you drove both, which one would you recommend? 750i of course or is the choice not so obvious?
Its 730d. Depends what you need , for me 730d is right choice, because its fast enough, very quiet and with low fuel consumption..

easyrider: Don't worry, its just one of first photoshops with real kidneys and bumper. Front lights - upper side are still off. But gives come clue how car will look.
Maybe It would be better to post only picture of front bumper.. I like that all new bimmers won't have big kidneys like F01 7 series.
