    Boxter S(987) or Cayman S ??

    I am in the market to get into either a Boxter S or Cayman S.
    What are the boards opinions on each model ?

    IMO your decision should be based on whether you want an open car or not.
    From what I understand the Cayman is a refined and tightened-up version of the Boxster with a bit more sportive handling.
    But mind you, the Boxster is one of the finest sportscars out there already.

    I would say: If you wanna track the car and really want to explore the extra ummpf and handling the Cayman offers, go with that one.
    If everyday sporty driving and the occasional track-day + you like to enjoy the fair days in an open beauty the Boxster is for you.

    Hard call. I'm faced with the same decision myself - as I was thinking about getting a Cayman in a year or two. However, we have 27 degrees here in Denmark right now, and I would hate NOT to have the Boxey on a day like this

    My wife would rather have a Cayman without sports seats. I dread having a drive in the Cayman because I know I would like it and I couldn't justify the cost of changing my Boxster for one.

    Me too. I think I'll fancy the Cayman as well. Maybe one of each? I wish! Can't wait until open evening at OPC to have a snoop.

    Most anyone's opinion about the Cayman is specualtion at this point as none of us has driven it...

    But the Boxster S has greater capabilities than most of its owners (myself included), a convertible top and it costs thousands less. I think if I wanted a closed top Porsche I would save a little extra cash and get a lightly specced 997, or a barely used 996. Of course if the mid-engine layout and its associated driving dynamics are what you are looking for then you may have little choice other than the Cayman in its price range.

    I agree totally with that. I am only scratching the surface of my car's abilities. Due entirely to my own shortcomings. (Must do a high performance course, somewhen). Maybe the best of both worlds is a Boxster with hardtop?
