    Sharing My Grief

Picked up my 05 Cab last week and have only 300 miles on it. Yesterday I was being soooooo careful parking it that i scratched the front bumper. Now the agony of of deciding what to do. The car is Artic Silver and am concerned with paint match if I get it repaired. Needed to share since my wife thinks I am crazy.

    Re: Sharing My Grief

I feel your pain! I managed to put a deeep scratch in my 987 trying to fit the hardtop when tired and in a hurry. At least the bumper should spray out reasonably OK, and it won't rust.

    Re: Sharing My Grief

Paint matching on my 99 Boxster was hard because Arctic Silver uses a two-step paint process. That said I would check out either a professional or http://www.autovisuals.com/. I've used the latter one with great success, but only on my lapis blue and black cars (never tried silver). Hope this helps.

I concur Doctor. There's ways to use DIY touch up paint and make it look good. Wait until you get a few more blemishes or, God forbid, a big dented mess before you think about professional repair or replacement.

I have just ordered the AutoSharp AS pen. I will give it a try and report back. Thanks for the link!

I would NEVER perform a DIY paint job on a reasonably priced car! If you find a decent paint shop and your scratch is presumably small, it should be hard to notice.

I saw an Exclusive-equipped 996 Turbo Cab at the dealer a couple of days, with a few scratches to be sorted out prior to reselling. I bet you wouldn't notice that it was painted over.

If you can stand the sight I would indeed wait a bit longer (depends on the place of the scratch) to paint it over, since there might occur some additional damage due to stone chips.

I'm sorry I should have been more specific. If you get a big scratch, some of them can easily be filled with touch up paint and the paint can be leveled and polished. Touch up paints are like body filler nowadays, (a little exaggerated) they will take some tooling (sanding and scraping) and can then be polished.

There was a website somewhere a while ago called "paintucation.com" which described how you can do excellent small scale DIY paint touchups. Fixes to gouges and small dents etc. appartently can be accomlished by DIY means because paints are so forgiving these days.
