M4 - 'Festival of Speed'
OK, for those of you who don't know it the M4 is one of the main motorway arteries into London - and on a Monday, or any other day for tht matter, can be a bitch. I have the pleasure of using some of this for my daily commute - today the traffic was pretty bad - but I didn't care. Why....?
Well joining onto the M4 (Newbury) I joined right behind a Mercedes McLaren SLR. I think this guy must have realised I was trying to look at the car from all angles as he pulled into the middle lane to allow me to pull along side (this is at about 80 mph). I cupped my hand to my ear and that was all the invite he needed for a full 12 cylinder concerto. I then 'allowed' him to rejoin in front producing another noise fest. Two observations whilst sitting behind him in traffic - the car looks under-tyred, say compared with Lambo's excesses, adn this car had 'Prototype Version' faintly written on the back. Lost the car in the traffic queue around Reading but saw him a bit later 10 cars in front of me pulling into Bracknell.
Whilst behind the SLR an F40 come down the opposite carriageway at what sounded like full tilt - another great sound.
And then to top it all - in traffic on the A329(M) a black McLaren F1 suddenly appeared behind, which I felt obliged to let pass - another great sound even with the restrictions of the amount of traffic around.
Now these were in addition to the normal plethora of Boxsters, 911's, occaisional 360s and a couple of Vanquishes that you catch in this area.
So the traffic flow was crap, but the quality of the traffic was terrific....
