For the front bumper you don't have to worry about waxing it because there's no paint to wax. For the hood it's pretty easy to keep the wax pad about an 1/8 of an inch from the line. Or you can use painters tape and put a strip just covering the edge. I haven't had any problems with wax residue.

I wax both the clear bra and the paint to keep both protected. If you do not maintain both materials equally one will look worse than the others in a few years time.
Always wax in straight lines anyway, no circular motions like in Karate Kid. In the areas with seams, you wax from the clear bra material onto the paint. Wax doesn't get stuck in the edges this way. You can also be careful about it not to rub wax into the edges. Even if you do, a q-tip and some detailing spray or alcohol takes it right out.
