    Re: McLaren on a winning streak

    ALDO:

    Weight is linear - no formula with m2 or so

    a=2*m/s*s

    m= mass, s=time, a=accel

    Fl=(A*q*v2*Cw)/2

    A=area

    q=dense of air (1,3 kg/m3)

    v=velocity

    Fl=force due to drag

    do your math

    As I said we don't have the numbers for A or Cw Smiley

    720S which did 0-300 in 19.4s was weighed during the Supertest full of fuel and came out at 1425kg thats 3141lbs.

    The 675LT which also did a Supertest weighed 1361kg so 3000lbs.

    570S is supposed to weigh DIN at 1440kg 3174kg with the Spider being 46kg heavier.

    Ah good to know, finally Mclaren is not lying for once.

    I think you are probably correct about customer cars, the 720S tested at 1425kg had the fixed buckets -15kg and I presume no front lifter, customer cars will likely be pushing 1500kg with the full options, top end sound, lifter, normal seats with electric and heating, electric steering column etc...

    This is always the way, the 997GT2RS was listed at 1370kg DIN but most customer cars came in at 1450 odd kg, even the one given to Sportauto to test was at 1405kg and that was a factory low option test car !

    No - they calculated a time difference of 1.5s (between 200 and 300 kph) resulting from the weight disadvantage of the turbo s alone (!). Weight is of significant relevance in high speed ranges, I learned during the discussion of these calculations, didn't expect this outcome based on physics and mathematics either Smiley

    Can you give us an idea of the calculation, the weight difference between Turbo S and 570S is about 150kg ?

    I would have thought the drag would be more/as significant in this range and I don't think we know the 570S numbers Smiley

    There are ways to cheat without really cheating, at least not something people could verify, unless they do some extensive dyno AND emissions testing. angry

    All manufacturers cook with water and when weight and power figures are comparable and performances are substantially higher in a speed range where weight shouldn't play that much of a role anymore, well...

    Like I said, I do not want to imply anything but the performance in the 100 to 300 kph speed range is, to say at least, interesting.

    Re: McLaren on a winning streak

    My first post here, very interesting to read.

    Concerning weight and acceleration i do think weight counts. 2 trucks same enging etc one loaded other one not, wich one would be hypotheticaly faster 200-300kmh. Same with braking time/distance.

    I think Mclarens are pretty light cars concerning there competition and that helps as well as the slighty underrated engine

    Drove a regular 720s myself - based on this I have no doubt that the customer cars are indeed as quick as written in the magazines. The difference to the turbo s class can be felt immediately (above 200kph). The 720s has a lot more power Smiley

    Re: McLaren on a winning streak

    Worthy of mention is the AB test of the 570S with Race chip tuning box with claimed 676PS/795NM.

    The car tested at 0-300 in 21.3s and 200-300 in 13.2s compared to 16.2s for the factory car.

    It is unlikely that the Racechip could develop more than the quoted 676PS. 0-300 in 21.3s is outrageously fast for just 676PS.....I am thinking that the 570S is a particularly slippery shape, the Cd number to be found online says 0.32 but there does not seem a reliable source where this number came from. With its skinny tyres, highly raked screen and extreme focus on airflow (have a read of link below) I wouldn't be surprised if the 570S had a very low CdA number which contributes massively to its high speed acceleration

    Weight definitely matters when you're looking at acceleration. If you were just looking at top speed, then no, power matters most. If you're looking at a rate of acceleration though, weight definitely matters.

    Don't have to look too far back in their history. P1. I l believe the world have yet to find a customer car that weight less than 3500lbs in street trim. Which, by the way is a good 3-400lbs heavier than what McLaren claimed the car will be.

    McLaren, like Ferrari, like to list DRY weight, which by itself is already around 120kg less than DIN weight, cause of all the fluids. Think someone told me before when McLaren weight their P1 for the dry weight, they even take out the air cleaner and spark plugs and oil filter.

    Then they also like to quote cars with every single lightweight options, which is close to impossible for a customer to spec them all.

    You still got a hard-on for the P1. We get it. Every other McLaren has been a lightweight and close to expected numbers. Tons of people have weighed them.

    I did indeed I had one serious punter on it and I was extremely happy to sell it to him, he was very knowledable knew all about RS Tuning and the modifications and intended to carry on "hot rodding" it, he paid me what I asked which I thought was quite fair and I am glad the car will now actually be used and with someone with the finances to maintain in and the passion and knowledge to really enjoy it.

    His instagram feed is below, you can see he has already started improving the interior.

    McLaren Senna in Victory Grey, 1200 kg, 800kg of downforce, 0-200km/h in 6.8s, 0-300km/h in 17.5s. Supposedly limits downforce at 155 mph because it creates more downforce than the suspension can deal with.

    The car looks far better in this spec. Rear hindquarters and side on view are still challenging. Proof of the pudding will be in track times though.
