    Has my mechanic been playing with my car???

    just brought my car into service the other day to get rattles fixed up.

    one thing I noticed. the avg fuel comsumption gone up from 12.2 L/100km to 12.3.

    since I had the car for 4mons now, and never resetted the fuel comsump reading. I would seriously take a lot of thrashing at high revs to even change the reading.

    since if I drive on the highway for like an hour, then the reading would go down by say 0.1 L/100km. For it to go up after one breif test drive of my car.... geez

    i only hv 4800km on the clock. and it seems that the mechanic thrashed the hell out of my engine.

    should I go back and complain??

    Yes, tell them the same story you tell us.
    If it's an authorized Porsche service garage they normally wont trash a car because they drive Porsches all day long and dont feel the need, but who knows.
    I'd defiantely confront them...calmly

    More likely the car was left running without moving, unless you noticed the odometer changed significantly too.

    they do sometimes take the car for a test(as far as i know they don't thrash it) they just drive around to make sure everything is back the way it was. that's the problem with rattle's they have to drive the car themselves to hear where the noise is coming from and then drive it again to check if they have solved the problem. so it shouldn't have more than 10km's on the odometer since you dropped it off at the dealer.

    You took it to our Porsche Centre? Don't worry, they are very good with the cars. I have seen them revving the car hard down Vic Parade, but hey, that's what our cars are built for! So don't worry. But seriously, I think they probably just idled it.

    Perhaps it was on the edge of switching numbers when you took it in, and then they idled it for a little. If it had flipped TWO numbers, then it's a little more suspicious. I wouldn't worry needlessly about it. Does the car drive any different?

    I guess I just worry too much. since its my first Porsche.

    yes, its @ Prosche Centre. they are quite nice people, my saleman actually follow up with an email to c if everything has been fixed.. they do traine them well huh..

    got a Cayenne S for the day. felt like driving a mini-Bus around town. and the interior built quality is s***. gald I got my boxster back!

    Cars are systematically testdriven after servicing, I know that my mechanic will drive the car up to 250 kmh on the motorway, check everything is ok then take it on twisties to the limit, of course never when the oil engine is not warm enough, it's normal procedure, it's their job.
    If you call that thrashing then, yes he did thrash your car, but it's a good thing, don't worry. They know what they're doing and like the Doctor said, they do it at least 10 times a day, it's not like they do it for pleasure, it's actually part of the servicing procedure, the way they drive it is up to them, clearly mine goes over the speed limits but they "know" the surrounding very well (both Porsche and Ferrari France are in Levallois near Paris) and I'd rather have my mechanic properly test my car rather then driving it 120 kmh on the motorway and round the block.

    I can confirm what Fanch said. My car is serviced by the same dealer and last time I picked-up the car, it had an extra 70km on the clock ... obviously, one of the mechanic went for a "long test drive". I suspect he went home with the car at night .... I don't care because I'm sure even if he went "hard" on the car, he did it the right way and I sure if my car had other problems, he would have told me .... or fixed them as the car is still covered by the warranty.

    By the way, the Mercedes dealer who used to service my previous car would charge me everytime 3/4 hour labour for "test drive" while the car wasn't driven even 1 Km... I complained twice and was reimbursed ... That was a pure rip-off and dangerous because when you change tyres, brake pads or shock absorbers the car needs to be tested !!!!

    Bottom line I'm much more comfortable with the Porsche dealer taking a very long test drive rather than the MB dealer doing nothing ... and charging you for it.

    Dealer here will charge 15 min for test drive diagnostics, a must for them to locate source of rattles. BTW this was one (of many) reasons I changed dealers with the Audi when I got the car back with radio blaring and tuned into a rap station and an invoice "tech could not reproduce the problem" Wonder why he couldn't hear the rattle!!
