This has to be one of the most uncompromising performance cars ever released to the public by a manufacturer. This was the car that Roger Penske and Mark Donohue took racing, with little modification, and won the Trans-Am championship.
This was also the sorriest example of personal transportation you can possibly imagine. Driving around town it would sputter and spit and cough like a three pack a day smoker. Around 3000 rpm things would start to smooth out a bit and above 4000 it was just "OhMyGod"!

And a transmission and clutch that would take any amount of abuse you wanted to give it.
Looking at this motor I was really tempted. Then I started thinking of the reasons I sold mine in the first place. Owning a true high performance car in that era took a bit more dedication then it does today. Take valve adjustment for example. This car needed valves adjusted about every 2000 miles and they had to be adjusted with the engine hot and running!

I can still feel the hot oil running down my hands and splashing in my face.

So, I managed to make it out of the showroom without buying it. Wasn't my color anyway.
