I agree with you Lars, the 996 looks sportier, more agressive, the only thing is the stock bumper/inteakes/high clearance on the 996 is weak but put a GT3's bumper and compare it with the 997 then, and if you put a sportier bumper on the 997, it still won't make up the difference. The back does look better in the 997 and the sides with those bigger hips also.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see how much better looking the 997 is from the front than the 996. As Evo says, the 996 looks dated next to the 997.

To me, the wide bodied 996 front looks like an aggressive shark, while the 997 "S" looks like a cute and cudly puppy. Just my 5 ct.

On a slightly different element - the rear; does anyone else get put out by the trend by Porsche to add dual-tube exhaust tips to their styling book? I know that was offered on 996's (which I turned down when I configured my car) but I was hoping that was an aberration. Instead it looks like Porsche finds it a high-end styling feature since it's a distinguishing element of the 997S.
I find this objectionable because Porsche has always seemed to be more about function than style and a dual-tube tip is all style for a 911. Doesn't it imply that there is a V-8 or other engine that could reasonably have an exhaust header configuration resulting in dual-tubes per side?

Yep, you're absolutely correct about that. I don't like the 4-ender neither. It reminds me of the AMG 55ers... and all of these have a V8. Somehow the 4 pipes don't fit a flat-6.
