Thanks for that DC. I do NOT need a new car. I do NOT need a new car....
I have better discipline by SWMBO :-
You are not having a new car
You are not having a new car
.... but YOU DID buy me this Autocar....
.
wtsnet:OK, so heart rules head. You are in the dealers (on your own apart from the sales staff and a pretty receptionist serving you cappuchino 'cos no-one else is buying cars at the moment). You have accepted a derisory px on your car and you have believed the salesman when he says he cannot give you a discount because residual values are so strong and the waiting list stretches from his showroom halfway to Stuttgart. Do you PDK? What colour and options? Go on, get on that configurator and tells us your spec!
dreamcar:.... but YOU DID buy me this Autocar....
Aaah. Testing you, is she? Maybe she's just using you to get to me! (And all the rest of us on Rennteam!)
So tempting.
Spec? That's dancing with the Devil a bit isn't it?
But 2.9 Cayman, manual. Meteor. Black interior, no frills. Maybe LSD. ..... Dunno! Is this fantasy or reality?
Sensible one to get would be a 2 year old Cayman S. But I'm not in a financial position to be buying new Porsche's right now. I get enough eyebrows raised at work already. If I chopped it in for a new one, they'd figure they were paying me too much, and chop ME in!
I play on the configurator and keep ending up with around £55k -and good though the new car is I don't believe it's £30k better than what I've got now. If I did go for another Boxster or Cayman I'd have PDK so that SWMBO could use it for work and we could drop down to two cars rather than the three we have now. But no serious plans to change in the near future and when we do it won't be for a car as expensive as another Porsche.
I agree that the sensible way into another Porsche would be low mileage used - a one year old 997S (gen. 1) can easily be had for the same money as a new well specced Boxster S which in reality is where my money would go if thrown in Porsche's direction.
GR:PDK, PASM, 19" wheels, LSD, PCM, full leather, and a few trim choices. BiXenon lights are now over £1k as they can only be specced with dynamic cornering lights! My last Boxster S 3.4 cost £52k by the time I'd retrofitted PSE, short shift and aluminium / leather gearlever and handbrake!
£55k - that is quite a spec

Would be a bargain for us "Continentals" with the currently weak GBP I wonder how many customers from the continent will try to order one in the UK (of course with the steering wheel on the "right" side )
Thanks for scanning the article, DC

I am in the same situation, except I spec'd a 2009 and am not yet able to have LSD with a 6-speed manual, and looking at other threads, paddles may be a future option with PDK. My optimal car came to $73,000 for a 6-speed and over $76,000 with PDK. As great as the 2009 is, the changes are not all that significant as compared to my '08 987S, in fact I prefer my "classic" styling and am not impressed with the Saab enhancements to the tail-lights, etc. I shall either wait until the 988 comes out, or wait until LSD is available with a 6-speed manual, Boxster S horsepower becomes on par (either by option or standard) with Cayman S horsepower, and/or the cars pile up on the lots a bit more.

BLASPHEMY!!!!!!! TRAITOR!!!!! And here I thought you were a loyal Boxster man.
What you really want to do is wait a couple of years and grab a lightly used 987.5 Boxster S. Now if you said you wanted a GT3, like a certain German acquaintance, well that I could understand.

Well I did say "if" - as it is very unlikely I'll buy another Porsche - or any other really expensive car - as I have other priorities, these days.
