my GT3 RS delivery delayed

boy, i just phoned up my dealer to hear if there's a fixed production date for my november-scheduled RS...

now they told me that there are some difficulties in the factory -- but as always they actually have no idea what's going on -- and that all GT3 deliveries have been pushed back. there's even one RS for the same dealer on hold (which piXXes me off as well because i was told to get the first one in my town). i should expect delivery not before december. the perfect time of the year for such a car

.

btw, the same happened 3 years ago with my current car. 40 years of 911... yeah, fine. shouldn't they have learned producing the cars timely in the meantime?? sorry... but i am really disappointed right now.

Tell them that you need a loaner.

Maybe a GT2? That's what they lent ulf when they messed up his GT3 order.

Ever thought about the possibility that the delay has something to do with the postponed Supertest in SPORT AUTO?

There are some rumors floating around.

well, i somehow thought that there's MORE about the supertest delay than just that e.g. von saurma couldn't manage to drive a good lap... the S4 avant seemed a little bit like a substitute, in particular because they supertested the S4 sedan some months ago. so what's the point about testing it again?

RC, what rumours? please tell me about it!!

I suppose they didn't have a car to testdrive for the Supertest after the GT3 RS test didn't work out.
It is just speculation but maybe SPORT AUTO had a S4 SW test car at that time available, so they decided to change the Supertest.

The rumor indicates a technical problem on the GT3 RS, it also indicates that this is nothing really serious and that GT3 RS deliveries will start soon again.
Again: rumors have to be taken with caution, it is difficult to verify them.

Today I received the same phone call from my dealer...the production date for my september-scheduled GT3 ClubSport will be first week of december!!!

I thought that they stopped the regular GT3's line to build all the RS but at this time I think that there is some problem in the factory...

Can't wait...I will probably delete my order here in Italy and go directly in Germany to find my car!

I know that since July. I order my GT3 CS in december 2002 and the delivery was for April.
First time delayed to May.
Second time delayeg to June.
Third time to September (promess).
I phone to Porsche in July and they explain to me that the CS is delayed for the end of end of the year (November- December). If i want a RS not before beginning 2004.
If i want a normal GT3 i can have it in September.
And i had already a 996 C2 3.6 !
My dealer say to contact a lawyer to have my car !
Finally i decided to cancel my order. I never seen that before. And its a 100 K€ Car !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

according to your post and ml911's post it seems to be a clubsport version problem. but it's really weird. porsche is building the 996 since 1998, and there are always problems with the production schedule. three years ago my C2 was delayed for two months because of the sport exhaust and the full leather interior. i don't trust them any more. i'm really thinking about cancelling my order as well (or selling the contract or whatever).

My 996 C2 3.6 was delayed for 2 months too ! And this 911 had no option (only a metallic paint). The daschboard had a problem and the finition was not perfect (the rubber arond the window...).
However I love this porsche (and all the 911) but, in my opinion, i prefer drive my Maserati Coupé !

the production of the GT3 RS is up and running again! no real delay expected any more.

there was some sort of problem with the car, GT3 RS' already delivered have to be retrofitted somehow. my dealer told me that i'm lucky not to get a car of the first batch... well, he just told me that to calm me down i think

Just had my delivery date confirmed as the 20th November, was originally an October delivery so I can live with the extra 20 days. As I am collecting from the factory the only challange now is, whats the weather like in Stuttgart in November and can I fit snow chains

. Would be interested to hear what the problem was though.

Hi all I am new on your board and I am interested in your comments on 911GT3 RS delivery problems in the UK I have just had my order canceled by my dealer as they can no longer supply a car do any of you know anything about right hand drive production numbers or allocations.
This is becommming a more common problem but I feel I may get better service ordering a RHD car from a German dealer any thoughts?

i do not now how many cars have been assigned for UK -- for the worldwide production total the rumoured number is around 510 -- although i heard yesterday from my (german) dealer that the GT3 RS is sold out and that the total number will be around 300 cars. they have 3 or 4 signed orders for a GT3 RS -- but porsche told them that they can't be filled any more. according to my dealer, porsche has learned from the experience from the '99 GT3 when the limitiation was "unlimited" which made many early customers angry.

currently in germany, GT3 RS cars or contracts are being offered for a 15,000 - 20,000 EUR premium in advertisements in car magazines and online car market websites.

I attended a presetation from PCGB about 2 months ago where the production figures were "Confirmed". Total world wide production will be 510 with 95 RHD cars coming to the UK, all of which have been allocated.

At presant PCGB still have in excess of 150 deposits so you can imagine there are a number of upset people, you included by the looks of it!

If you want a RHD car they are available but you will pay Pounds10K+ over list for the privalige

.

I can put you in contact with someone who can help but your best bet might be to see what the Germans can do, as you suggested.

However, after the comment I saw posted maybe the number has been reduced so you might struggle there as well.

For some practical reason I changed my delivery date from Nov. 2003 to March 2004. Now I'm "Nr. 3" on the list. (I was Nr. 1) Do you think this could be a problem regarding this sold out issue???

no not at all -- the orders my dealer was talking about haven't been confirmed, it was just that customers said "i want a car" and the dealer said "ok, we do our best, sign here and we'll see" (and actually dealers talk a lot... so who knows...). yours is confirmed i suppose, i'm sure that you'll get your car. and march isn't such a bad time anyway, i'll get my car in november but due to the weather i have to keep it in the garage until march anyway i fear...

Yes my was confirmed. But there were to many things "confirmed". Last year a friend of my had a confirmed C2, and they forgot it!!! Hard to believe, isn't it? He had to make a new order and wait another 3 month. Never thought that something like this could happen

My car is also arriving in november, that's why I've asked the exclusive department to install a PSM as a retrofit

Mobile, march is the perfect time to get such a car, but I am always verysuspicious as to dealer allocations, I've had some bad experiences.I'd suggest you make sure your order is confirmed and have them give you the Porsche confirmation number.
I actually thought all RSs would be built and delivered before 2004!?!

Yes Bill, they'll also install the Boxster engine on my RS: you don't want too much power on slippery streets in December...

Unfortunately it seems that factory collection isn't possible for Swiss buyers.At least that's what my dealer told me...

Luigi...well there was some further motivation for the Q....when at the PDE in Birmingham @ Barber...rather wanted them to use the GT3's....they averred stating "not without PSM"
