Fitting a Short Shifter

Hi guys,

I have the Porsche short shifter for the boxster/cayman/911 and need to fit it. It is the complete unit but wondered if there was a DIY thread about?

check out the B&M website - the Porsche unit is 99% the same

The hardest part is getting the old knob to lift off the post. Make sure not to damage the twist lock at the top of the leather skirt, just get it turn a quarter turn and then pull really hard on the knob itself to lift it off. All of the other preparation is listed in the howtos. Not a difficult project at all.

Maybe some kind of strap could be used to help you gain a levered advantage on the knob. Gripping it with just your hands makes it very difficult.

Waz, I have uploaded the BM shortshifter installation guide.
It may help you.

Thanks for that. The Porsche supplied short shifter is the whole unit, whereas the B&M is just the shifter only if I am correct?

FWIW, I remember on my 03 986S there was a set screw in the shift knob that was NOT mentioned in the instructions. Turned out to be a PITA until figured it out.

On a 987S, I have done this recently, and there was not a set screw to consider.
